Ecole Claire Fontaine is an Art, Language & Nature school for young children. ECF joyfully educates children by honoring their inherent wisdom, allowing their voices to be unmuted, uncovering their true spirit, and nourishing each child holistically.
The curriculum is set as the children's interests emerge, and grows with the seasons. Our students exercise their strategic thinking through classes such as Architecture & Construction, Chess, our Botanical Nature and Science Lab, Astronomy, Mathematics, Oceanography and Toy Building. Imaginations and fine motor skills are stretched by Embroidery and Painting. Spiritual and emotional centers are exercised, along with gross motor skills, through Conflict Management, Mindfulness and Yoga. The senses are bathed in the sounds of Choir, Piano and Harp, and the smells of simmering jam and sautéing aromatics. With nutrition a focal point, our chefs lovingly prepare organic meals on a daily basis, while classes in Experimental Flavors awaken taste buds.
All food is organic and locally sourced as much as possible, reducing truck carbon emissions and keeping pesticides out of the soil and body. Produce is purchased weekly from local farms and farmers markets. Nearly a zero-waste school, uneaten food from plates is down to just one cup per day as ecology is part of our daily lessons, with the motto: take what you will eat and eat what you take. Most meals are eaten outside, family style. Any leftover peels or cores from organic produce are donated to our neighborhood pigs. In our gardens we grow herbs, vegetables and berries, and fruit on the trees. We recycle and reuse paper, with the children involved in the basics of sustainability. Single use plastic is not allowed, reducing our environmental impact. Both sides of art and writing paper are used. A Green School, ECF is nearly plastic free and en route to being zero waste.
ECF is also a Wildlife Habitat Certified school with gardens and trees across the campuses, which offers both pollinator protection and pollution prevention. Bees, birds and butterflies dance alongside the children basking in fresh air, cleaned from the trees.
School year runs September - June, and summertime at Summer By The Sea
ECF has received a violation for a file with incomplete paperwork. The situation was immediately rectified.
