Plain and simple. Shirley is a mess, awful at running a business. Promises not kept. Do not take your children here. Do not work here. You have been warned.

Where do I even start?! The teachers in this center are great and creative and do their best to teach the children. The owner/director on the other hand is not. Shirley Vesper really has no idea how to run her center. She will tell you one thing then turn around and say something completely different. She's all smiles and happiness until you confront her about something. There is no consistency with teachers, the children constantly have different teachers or they are moved to different rooms so she can save money and send teachers home. It's all about money to her and how she can make more money and save more money. She's very disorganized and inconsistent. You can never depend on her for anything. The kids don't have much of a structure to learn off of. I honestly would tell anyone not to take your child to CMCLC. Spend the extra money and take them to a place that you know they will be happy at and enjoy. There is no behavior plan put in place and parents don't get notified when their child hits or punches someone or gets hit or punched. The teachers get shamed upon if they talk to the parents. Her goal is for each parent to talk to her so she can make up lies and tell them what they want to hear instead of the teachers talking to the parents and telling them what really has happened during the day. The turn over rate in teachers is absolutely crazy, at least 10-12 staff members come and go within a year if not more. Teachers have to try their best to not confront Shirley and be nice about anything just so they don't get their hours cut. This is not a place you want your child to be at, please think twice before you take your child to this center!

For the love of God, do not take your child here! Shirley is so unprofessional. She told my daughter she was hired only to change her mind after my daughter quit her other job. As far as Im concerned, my daughter dodged a bullet by not working under such an unprofessional person.
I believe lack of money is an issue and this "child care center" will be going out of business soon.
Good luck to all that enter.

I have used this provider for less than 6 months

By all means run.

Absolutely horrified to hear that my son, being 2, will be thrown into another classroom to maximize classroom sizes and minimize the teachers she (Shirley) has to pay. On days where some children do not attend (holidays, Election Day, etc) she mixes all of the kids into two rooms and completely violates consistency and stability for these kids for the day. The same children who are experiencing behavior issues (allegedly) are being thrown around with new kids and foreign teachers st least once a week. Best part? Teachers are dismissed as early as 9/10 AM when the children are mixed and she is sure that they are crammed enough in two rooms so she will not have to pay teachers to stay longer. Disgusting, poor girls live their weeks hoping there isn't a holiday so they won't be cut a day off of a paycheck.

The turnover rate is alarming and I can imagine why. Shirley can sell a program, smiles and promises. But she forgets parents aren't stupid. We know it's sketchy when we aren't allowed interactions with our son's parent and we are all on high alert when the teachers are in trouble for trying to send us a lunchbox note home (well what else do you want the teachers to do when they aren't allowed to call or email us?) The turnover rate is awful for these kids but I can imagine knowing the way shirley keeps control of this sketchy establishment, making sure each teacher is isolated and away from parent interaction.

I know she is really nicely placed right next to a community and elementary school, but I will drive an hour for a PROPER preschool experience before I leave my child with her and have him develop behavioral issues by experiencing daily inconsistencies and left with god knows who during the day. This is 2016, parents. Education for your child is important and do NOT let the school be the one for you and your family. Disgusting human being in charge of this establishment and you and your child WILL not matter.

I have used this provider for more than 6 months

My child was enrolled in this facility for a short time, less than a year. Concerns began to arise when inquiry into our child's teacher arose. Shirley had a "run interference" mentality to our concerns of the teacher. Shirley is clearly extremely evasive and utterly disinterested in any concerns of a parent when it comes to questions in regards to her staff. Our concerns were extremely heightened when we noticed a few of the children climbing to the top of the gated fence in the playground as 2 of the staff were to engaged in their conversation with each other to notice the children, not to mention the road is a blind corner for drivers as it is on a bend. Within the time our child was there ( less than a year ) there have been an alarming amount of turnover in staff. We had observed an overly complaint ridden conversation one of the staff was having with another in regards to her morale at CMCLC. I would be inclined to believe that the staff is comprised mostly of young girls that are probably daughters of the administrators friends. Our child came home often completely covered in marker along with facial scratches which to us was a clear indication of the lack of supervision for the children. Children are messy with things like marker, paint, etc but this was extreme. We received no incident report for the scratches.

This facility is mediocre at best, lacks consistency in regards to the child's progress. There were a few futile attempts at progress charts for the children as well as incident reports such as potty accidents and physical incidents among children. These attempts at providing viable communication to the parents ceased almost as quickly as it began. Overall if you are at peace with having no clue to how your child is doing during the day as if you ask any staff member how the child's day was you will almost always get the same response " I don't know, I will ask the morning teacher" and never hear of it again then this place is fit for you. If you are ok with continuous staff changes with only being provided the teachers first name and no credential display then I highly recommend this place.
When a daycare has a cloak of secrecy in regards to certain aspects of its staff.........run, run fast. Our children are the most valuable gift we will ever have and when you leave your child with someone for 8 hours a day you deserve a much better, more organized structure and staff along with parental grievances, concerns handled with immediate concern, consistency in policy. Unfortunately Shirley's motto of "it's all good" and "ages & stages" coupled with an " if this isn't the right fit for you then move on because we are not changing" simply doesn't cut it for us. Our child is far more precious to us than this mediocrity level daycare.

I can say the one and only positive about CMCLC is the teachers. The girls that work there do genuinely care about the students and do their best to run the center. I had asked around when my child was attending and found that only 2 teachers had an actual degree in education, so I am not sure where that comes into play with Shirley stating that she hires people with degrees over others. Degree or not, I loved having my child in the toddler room. The lead toddler teacher is amazing. I have to agree with the review that says that all you will get from Shirley is a smile and a promise to do something; nothing else. I can say that there have been an alarmingly high number of instances that I have asked for her and have been told that she was not in the building but that I could email her with my concern. Emails are great and all, but I wasn't paying for an email to run the building my child was in. There was no other director or person in charge to direct my questions to. It was concerning to leave my child knowing that if something major were to happen, the teachers were left to handle it without her. I was told she was there daily from 8:30-5:00, yet never saw her upon drop off or pickup. All I can say without getting into too much detail or angry rant, is that I loved the teachers and the way the individual rooms were handled. The overall center is a mess and there is clearly a lack of structure and management. Shirley needs to step aside and hire a director to turn the place around.

I had heard about some of the reviews being posted here and figured I would offer my two cents. I have known the community, Shirley, families and staff for some time now. While I haven't been a member of the center for months now I will offer what I can. I can honestly say there is truth to every review posted below. For those of you who remember leanna, amy or nikki (and some others but I am blanking on some names) you will remember the positives. these girls held down the place, gave the best care possible to all children and uplifted that center in a way that seems no longer possible. after they were gone (oddly close to the same times, apparently all with shirley to blame- big mistake) things seemed to unravel. Shirley does not have it together and that became more apparent. she can offer you a smile, cheery voice and promises but that is as far as it goes. Beneath the surfaces things are almost shady. Staff seemed to get younger, less educated and careless by the minute. For the review that said shirley hires those with degrees and higher levels of education, why don't you ask to see their degrees because I'm certain 7/10 won't have one. Don't get me wrong, there are still some great girls, class sizes are wonderful and crafts were precious but things are most certainly not how they used to be or as they seem. My oldest is in elem school now and for a second I thought about returning with my youngest (for the conveniency) but I can't bring myself to go back knowing the way friends/families) were scammed and favorite teachers were treated.

My child has been attending CMCLC for over two years and I have never heard of any accusations of a teacher injuring a child. I cannot speak to Shirley as a manager/boss, but she has always been available, understanding, and very helpful if I had any concerns regarding my child’s care or education. Part of the reason I chose CMCLC is because they prefer to hire teachers with their degree in education, as opposed to workers who just passed the minimum Maryland standards. Because of this, there is some turnover since these teachers ultimate goal is normally to teach in a school district where they will get better pay, benefits, ect. However, I feel more comfortable as a parent knowing that someone who is educated in early childhood education is teaching my child than just a person who took a 60 hour course, and the turnover has never been to the point where I feel like my child has been affected. I am not going to say that CMCLC is 100% perfect, of course no one can take care of your child like you can, but I feel like my child is receiving a top notch education and care at a fair price.

Let it be known Aug 19, 2013

If I could give this center a 0 I would. Firstly, the center management is absolutely terrible. Shirley is wound up so tightly she can barely take a breath. Recently, there have been accusations that one of their lead teachers intentionally injured a child. I know this because word of mouth spreads quickly and a friend of mine whose child WAS enrolled at CMCLC is threatening to call the state on them and that teacher. I also know that multiple family members have been employed by Shirley and been terribly mistreated! All of the staff are friendly and mainly provide great care, but behind the scenes it really is a s*** show, take it from someone who has worked in management at this so called "learning center." make sure you get an explanation on who created their curriculum..Shirley did. Want to know where she went to college and got her child development or business management degree, she didn't and she doesn't have ANY experience. Ask where she taught previously as a child care professional, the answer? she never has and it's very clear she doesn't know how to manage a child care center either. This truly is a stay at home mom who ran a babysitting rig in her basement and then got a wild hair up her a** to make it a profession. She has NO experience, NO degree and NO where near enough knowledge to run a business. Sorry having a child at 19 doesn't make you a child care professional believe it or not... don't waste your money.

I totally disagree with above statement. I think Shirley does an awesome job at managing the center and the staff. The staff are all young, energetic and compassionate girls that do a great job. We attended CMCLC awhile back but then left due to money issues. Once we were able to afford it again, we enrolled ASAP. I can drive away every morning knowing they are going to have fun, be safe and learn something new.

My child attended CMCLC for over 1 year. The facility is poorly managed and I felt staff got little support. However, staff provide great care to the children.
