I am an employee

I’ve been working with cherry kids for the past 4 summer’s now and everytime that I work there the environment is always great. The kids are amazing and Ms. Cherry, the boss, has a driven soul that creates an environment that caters to every child there. Ms. Cherry allows for the kids to thrive through the games in the building and the life skills she strives for the kids to learn. In addition, provides for the community, hosting giveaways for the kids that she caters for and people all over the community.

My child has been under Cherry’s care for 3 years. Cherry is kind, generous, reliable, and does an ample amount of work for the community. What she receives in donations, she gives to parents and children in need. Her program is one of the few programs that will pick up children from school, giving working parents like myself the reassurance that we can maintain employment. When you bring your children to Cherry kids, they’re in good hands.

As a SYEP intern this program was fun for me. Cherry made me feel like I was doing a actual Job. She made it feel like I was stepping into the real adult world. She really looks out for the kids and her staff. It was a pleasure working with Cherry and the kids there.

Previous Staff (2021) Oct 10, 2021

I've witness her mistreatment toward the children. She does not supervise the children as well and the environment she allows the children to be in is not safe at all. She also mistreated SYEP staff form the ages of 16-18. She takes out her anger on the staff and the children. She is most definitely disorganized and can barely remember anything. She blames her disorganization on anyone but herself. This job of hers is not meant for her. This job belongs to someone who loves working with children, are patient and aren't old and bitter.

I have used this provider for more than 6 months

I absolutely love this daycare. Cherry kids potty trained my daughter in a week and she's learned so much . She has advanced in speaking , putting together sentences and learning . She listens and takes direction very well now . I would recommend this day care to any parent with kids from ages 6 months - 12 yrs old . My son who's 6 years of age loves the after school program . She takes them on many trips and always does give aways . She has a lot of holiday events . My son has built a lot of self confidence and maturity while attending. She is definitely a community resource and advocate . She is all for the community and kids . She will help and advocate for any child's well being , future and education . Her staff is very polite and respectable , they are also diverse with age and ethnicity which makes the kids more comfortable. She is definitely worth the travel from Highbridge in the Bronx to East Harlem . I HIGHLY Recommend this establishment . Blessing , Adasia Monroe

No child should be treated the way Cherry Kids, Inc. treats their camp members. I would advise parents to visit the site at a random day at a random time so that you can witness the lack of safety, lack of educational progression, and the immediate disrespect these kids receive upon attending the program. Cherry, herself, is disorganized. She most likely does not have the paperwork of the children she lets into the program—meaning medical forms so that she may know of any serious health conditions that the children face, etc. As a minority, I would like to think that Cherry would help her community the best way that she can, but she just profits from city funds and sponsorships—she does invest in any equipment for the children or any educational programs for them. She takes the children on trips in which their parents do not give them permission to go on. There are several health and safety violations in her site on E120th st. About 15-20 children are stuffed in one classroom to play board games, puzzles, and color ALL day. Is this how a government funded program should be ran? Should there not be structured lessons for these children during their off time from school. There is no intellectual stimulation. Irene Taylor, who is the site coordinator does not provide any kindness to the children who attend the program. She does not create a schedule to incorporate play time and education; she merely screams at the children ALL day. Cherry comes in and out of the program as she pleases, and also screams at children to the top of her lungs. Rules and expectations of the program are not discussed with children, and because they are not given guidance, they run rampant throughout the classroom. I would just please ask that parents watch closely to how their children are being treated at Cherry Kids; is $350 really worth having your child being taught no values, being disrespected, and losing out on strengthening their education over the summer? Please reconsider. We should not be treating our people this way. Please shut down this organization, it is not benefiting the greater good of the children it serves. If parents do not believe this post, please visit your child throughout the day at this program, you will witness chaos, disrespect, and lack of nurture.
