*IMPORTANT READ* Initially was excited to enroll our child here. Met the teachers and asked questions cover the topics we were most focused on - Safety, bathrooms, and curriculum. Most of the experience was good though we left with some followup questions should the time arise. Later on through the enrollment process we learned our child was invited to join one the of classes for the upcoming year. We were excited but we wanted to ask our follow up questions. Sent an email asking about the security of the kids and the classrooms, how bathroom time works and if there is any social/politcal agendas or ideas taught to the kids. The responding email answered our question clearly on safety and the bathroom time though it made us uncomfortable the way they do it, and a very general reply about teaching kids about cultures, religions, and and being kind to everyone - a response that most people would be fine with, but was not a direct answer to our question. So in the current education climate of our country, my wife and I decided to do some research. My wife found out (via the association Montessori international website) that the Montessori schools are encouraging the teachers to teach about divisive racial subject matter such as white privilege and critical race theory. Even more egregious is that they are given resources to teach about gender identity and use kids books that involve touchy subject matter that some parents would not find appropriate for their kid. Now I'm not saying the staff here at this location are teaching these ideas, but that the AMI organization provides this material. Some parents might be okay with this. Others will not. Since Montessori was not upfront about this, I thought it would be important to inform parents so they are aware.
