Description: Alphabetland/AIA is owned and operated by JMIC Inc, a non profit organization registered with the State of New Jersey in 1988. We, at Alphabetland are dedicated to the safety, comfort, social, emotional, physical and mental development of children enrolled here.

Alphabetland has arranged it's programs in a manner to maximize the learning experiences of early Childhood education in such a way as to elicit the most positive responses in the children and lead to the development of wholesome, healthy, happy, inquisitive and creative personalities. Observation of a fire drill indicated that children and staff are walking a block and a half away to an evacuation location. Staff are carrying each carrying two infants while crossing a street without a stop sign to hold traffic in place, when the children can evacuate to a safe location on the center's property. The infants are not being evacuated in an evacuation crib as the center is located on the second floor. Ensure that the center evacuates in a safe manner.

Violation Observed: Ensure that unapproved space is inaccessible to the children at all times. On the day of the inspection children were observed coming out of the kitchen. A few minutes after staff were instructed that children cannot be brought into the kitchen for any reason, another child was found siting at the kitchen table watching something on an iPad. alone.

On the day of the inspection observation indicated that the children were all being kept in vestibule area of the center and then after being directed back to their respective rooms the children were engaged in only free play. Staff stated that this particular child was a staff person's child. On the day of the inspection a child was in the kitchen and was not accounted for when the staff were asked how many children were in their care.

An infant was observed eating a chocolate chip cookie at the start of the inspection. Staff stated that their parent had provided the cookie, but the same cookies were observed in the kitchen. The container was opened on the kitchen table.

For early childhood programs, the following shall apply, feeding requirements for centers serving children less than 18 months of age are as follows: a child who, because of age or developmental readiness, no longer needs to be held for feeding shall be provided with an infant seat, high chair with safety strap, or other age-appropriate seating apparatus, which meets the standards of a recognized safety organization (such as the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association, the American Society for Testing and Materials, or the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission).

Violation Observed: Ensure that age and developmentally appropriate seating is provided for all children who no longer need to be held for feeding. An infant was observed being fed snack/lunch in a bouncy seat. Bouncy seats are not approved for feeding. Ensure the child is either held or seated in a high chair.
