I have used this provider for more than 6 months

My son attended this preschool when he was three and had a pretty good experience. The trouble began when he turned four and started exhibiting a learning disability that prevented him from communicating on the same level as other children. This was frustrating for him so he started acting out. He would push, kick, bite, and make big messes. This school didn’t try but maybe three weeks to “work” with him. They even isolated him from the classroom and they even proposed continuing this. It seemed they didn’t hire teachers with any training in children with any type of atypical behavior. He was asked to leave. Imagine trying to explain to your four year old why he’s not going to school. He didn’t act this way at home. They made him out to be a bad child. They reported every minor thing. An example, he had a report for knocking over another child’s blocks! That’s typical stuff for kids. Try teaching them how to play and social skills. Another big thing is that they never let you drop your child off at carpool. Most preschools will have a carpool area where the child gets out and with supervision, walks in alone. This school makes you walk your child to their class every day. It’s very odd. I’d suggest Highland Presbyterian Weekday School or St. Francis. Our other two children attended those and they were amazing. They worked with all children, including ones with disabilities.

I am the new Director at this program and regret that this is your perception of your experience at St. Paul's. We have a long history of providing excellent care in our community, and we pride ourselves on working with every child and their stage of development individually. I do believe that we work well with children with atypical behavior, and from time to time if a situation in a classroom is overwhelming for a child, we will work with them individually in order to determine the best course of action. This is not isolation, but a calming-down technique and an opportunity to better assess the situation. We also must consider the safety and experience of every child and staff member. When a situation with a child extends beyond our scope of knowledge or we feel like additional resources are warranted, then we suggest such, in the best interest of the child. We also do report incidents to families because we want to keep 100% open communication as to a child's behavior. We ask that parents walk their children in to their classes in the morning because it gives staff members the opportunity to engage with children's parents and guardians in a personal way. I am sorry that this was an inconvenience to you during your time here. Please feel free to email me at preschoolstpauls@bellsouth.net if you would like to discuss this further. I hope that the time between me finding this review and the time of writing has brought nothing but success to you and your child.
