My son started Brightstar when he was 19 months old. At first I was very pleased with how much he was learning and his two teachers were wonderful. once he turned 2, he was moved up to the next room. This is where all of the problems started. There was a different teacher in the room every single day. When I would pick my son up, he would have different marks (some bite marks, some where he may have fell) but no one was EVER able to provide me with an explanation as to where the marks would come from. The answer I ALWAYS received was "I don't know, I just got in here". After hearing that so many times, my frustration was through the roof. MY son's diaper was not getting changed regularly, sometimes only 2 times when he was there for 10 hrs. One afternoon I showed up and my son and several other children were found drinking out of the toilet. I expressed my concerns to the front office staff multiple times, including the director. I was always assured that it would be handled, but NEVER was. One afternoon when my husband was picking up my son we were told he had two nose bleeds that day. No one notified me at all and this was not a normal thing for my son. I've never experienced him having a nose bleed, much less two. I asked the front manager, Gina, to run the tapes back and tell me what happened because the same day, he also came home with a busted lip. Gina advised she would run the tapes and get back to me. After a week I followed up with her to which I received a smirk, attitude, and told she had been out for the last week and had not had time. I was livid. She then let me know that she completely understood if I wanted to start looking into other daycares. Instead of correcting their negligence and bad habits, she just wanted me gone. One of our last days at Brightstar, I walked and found that my son had a huge red mark going across his forehead. I asked what happened and of course the same response of "I don't know". I became so frustrated and asked "Who around here can tell me what is going on with my child during the day?" I was shocked with the response I received which was "you need to understand we have 20 kids in here and can't see everything". That was our last day at Brightstar. Their priority is not the children. While we were attending Brightstar, I found out they hired someone that I knew and knew for a fact was very bad on drugs. This person did not have her own kids because of her drug problems...but Brightstar hired her to watch my child. Another person hired was arrested for Aggravated Assault for hitting her bf with her car. Brightstar hired her. It seems nice and friendly on the outside but their negligence and lack of supervision is enormous. Please think before you start sending your kids here. Once I started doing my research and asking around, I was horrified at the stories I was told. A woman's newborn went ALL day without eating..because he was asleep! I would never recommend this place to ANYONE.. EVER!
DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN HERE! The facility is very nice and clean, and on the forefront the teachers and staff appear to be very kind and loving. However, that is not the case, my son went here for 6 months, and in the beginning things were great. At the end of his stay at Bright Star I began to notice the serious amount of neglect that he experienced. I urge you to look at the state reports before taking your children here. Cited for laying babies on their stomachs, as well as other numerous grotesque safety violations. You can find the state inspection reports at decal.ga.gov.
Mrs. Emily (the director) is fantastic! She knows who I am when I call, who my kids are and what funny or cute thing they did yesterday. Just very personalized care. My kids have grown, learned and developed so well under BrightStar's care. They really help your children learn - they don't just "keep an eye on 'em" like some places do.
