Qualifications
Required
Twelve (12) semester units in Early Childhood Education including:
Childhood Growth and Development
Child, Family, Community
Curriculum
California Preschool License and requirements
(After offer) Live-scan criminal record clearance and health clearance (TB test)
Preferred
Enthusiastic, loving and nurturing personality
Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms
Able to lift a 5-year-old child as necessary
Certification in child CPR
BSc/BA in education or relevant field
Purpose and Scope
Working with the preschool Director, the Lead Preschool Teacher strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education while creating positive school community relationships and preparing students to transfer into Catholic kindergarten. The Preschool teacher develops a creative learning and social program appropriate for preschool children. Position includes observing the needs of each student and developing learning techniques to help build their social competencies and build self-esteem. Performs other related job tasks as deemed necessary by the Director and assumes a leadership role when the Director is off campus.
Essential Job Functions
Achieves the goals of Catholic education and promotes Gospel values and Catholic teachings.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of effective teaching techniques and child development in preparing daily lesson plans and learning activities appropriate for the preschool child’s needs
Employs a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, media etc.) to teach children
Develops lessons plans for academic and experiential learning opportunities
Directs student needs to improve their social competencies and build self-esteem
Sets goals and tracks children’s progress and reports regularly to parents
Acts as a positive role model and maintains a professional attitude. Uses positive communication skills both in and out of the classroom
Attends professional and spiritual growth meetings as assigned by the Director.
Participates in school functions and parent activities
Encourages children to interact with each other and resolve occasional arguments
Guide children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through a carefully constructed curriculum (identify shapes, numbers or colors, do crafts etc.)
Ensure student safety, health, and maintain classroom tidiness
