The Merrimack Valley Immigrant and Education Center’s (MVIEC), (Formerly the Asian Center) mission is to serve all immigrants through outreach and education programs, in order to assist them in becoming productive members of the community. MVIEC strongly promotes promote cultural diversity, from our Board of Directors, staff and students coming to us from all over the globe, bringing together a wonderful mix of culture, language, tradition, and aspiration.
We have a long history of providing a solid foundation for preschoolers preparing for kindergarten in a creative and nurturing environment that celebrates cultural diversity. This year, as Director, you will help lead us as we embark on our next chapter, expanding our center to offer full and half day schedules.
As Director you will be responsible for:
· Enrollment and marketing of the center’s program
o Prepare marketing materials
o Outreach in the community to all groups
o Use social media to promote programs
o Create Facebook page and maintain it with preschool happenings
o Participate in community meetings and partnership with GLCAC and the Michael B Christensen Center
o Write articles for our agency annual report, newsletters, etc.
o Work with staff on annual open house and other community events
· Build and develop curriculum that captivates students and creates exciting learning environments
o Guide, supervise and oversee curriculum development, that promotes English language development
o Follow MA Core Curriculum for preschoolers, with special attention to STEM, understand WIDA, and incorporate its objectives into curriculum
o Incorporate art, music, movement and exercise into daily activities
· Follow all EEC guidelines and reporting requirements
o Work with EEC Coordinator, currently Tim Donahue
o Update and maintain parent guide (behavior management, health care policy, grievances)
o Maintain all student records
o Comply with and incorporate all EEC changes into our program, including CORI and fingerprinting guidelines
o Renewal of license from EEC
· Staff
o Supervise, hire and evaluate staff performance on an annual basis
o Prepare teacher schedules, and submit weekly time sheets
o Facilitate monthly staff meetings
o Plan for and organize staff trainings including CRP/First Aid trainings
o Work with staff on children evaluations, plan conferences, etc.
o Mentor staff

The ideal Director 1 Candidate will possess the following qualifications:
• Must be Director 1 certified by the MA Dept. of Early Education and Care, including CPR and first aid.
• Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education with a minimum of two years of experience working within a preschool environment in a leadership role
• Passion for working with immigrants, strong intercultural communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from other cultures.
• Flexibility, ability to multi-task, strong organization skills and attention to detail.
• Display excellent verbal and written skills and model correct English language usage for parents and students.
• Have knowledge of the many ethnic communities within the City of Lawrence
• Ability to lift and carry 35 pounds
