I have used this provider for less than 6 months

I dropped my 14-month-old daughter at The Children's Hour in Bentonville. I have to admit I was feeling a little uneasy about the place for about a week. Now I know why. I returned an hour later after dropping my daughter off; I wanted to watch LIVE feed from the mangers office....I'm glad I did. I witnessed one of the teachers there in the Waddlers Room abuse three children. Teacher looked highly frustrated, she was picking up all the toys in the room. A child was pulling up a piece of a puzzle mat from the floor and she stomped on the pieces to deter him from pulling up more. Odd I thought. Then she walked over to a shelf, where the toys are normally housed, but the toys were all on the floor, a little girl was playing with a toy, the teacher shoved the little girl off the toy and grabbed it from her. The teacher then throws a toy across the room in the direction of other children, she then walks over to where the toy was thrown and pushes a little boy down onto his back. He starts crying. That's when I had enough and ran into the room, grabbed my child and ran for the hills. I got to my car and held my little girl for 5 mins and sobbed. I felt like a helpless parent.

While I was watching the video, Jenafer (office assistant) was watching the video with me. When the teacher shoved the little girl off the toy, I asked Jenafer if the teacher was okay? She said, "I don't know...." And when I ran into the room to grab my child after the teacher shoved the little boy down, Jenafer was right behind me and asked the teacher, "Are you okay (name), do you need help..." The teacher responded, "I always need help."

I filed a police report and the officer, SGT Albers did a wellness check on the rest of the children and viewed the video. Peace was in order when he arrived. SGT Albers viewed the video and told me "the teacher was highly inappropriate towards the three children and that I need to find a new daycare." NO CRAP! He couldn't say it was child abuse since the children didn't have markings on them. Does emotional abuse cause physical markings?????? While SGT Albers was there a DHS representative, Sha-Tina Hawkins was visiting on a different case, he pulled her in to watch the video too. She sided with SGT Albers, that the teacher was highly inappropriate towards the three children. Jenafer said to the officer she wanted to speak to me about this incident but I ran off. I was in the parking lot for 5 mins sobbing. No one came out or chased after me. SGT Albers told Jenafer, no crap, if I saw that and my child was in that room I would have done the same thing.

Jeanfer is lucky I didn't witness my child being abused. No wonder why my daughter did not like this teacher and preferred the other teacher.

AND on that note, I did not receive a phone call from Leigh Anne Chitmon, the director of Children's Hour. It's been 4 days and not a single word. My husband called this morning to let me know he will be picking up our daughters belongings and Jenafer acted as if nothing had happened and said, "okay" on the phone.... Unbelievable. You would think that this kind of establishment would let me know that they don't stand behind this type of behavior and they are doing this and that. NOTHING. Makes me scared of what else 'they' think is acceptable.

DHS Case worker, Ainslee Brown said DHS rejected the case of child abuse because there were no physical markings on the three children. Ms. Brown visited Children's Hour and viewed the video, she was mortified too. Ms. Brown felt helpless and what she could do. She stated that the teacher is now enrolled in Behavior Guidance Training at Helen Walton. She also said that Children's Hour will do an incident report TODAY regarding the teacher and the three children, the parents will be notified of the incident, sign the report and HOPEFULLY be given the option to view the video.

I have used this provider for more than 6 months

I have had my children here for years and we love this center. My boy has gone off to school and my girl is still here. We love the staff and my boy still likes to stop and see he old teachers when we pick up sis. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a loving place for children.

I have used this provider for less than 6 months

My child was in "the children's hour" for 6 hours. I removed her promptly because they were not taking care of her like they should. When I went to drop her off no one said a word to me they just ignored the fact that I hadn't been there before. They didn't make me feel like my child was going to be taken care of. I also went to check on her at 3 and She still had a jacket on and it was 89 degrees outside. She is hot natured, which they would've known if they would have bothered to ask me anything when I dropped her off or to even talk to me when I said something. She was sweaty and hot. I never returned her after the first day. They also continued to charge me for the week after even though they were negligent in taking care of her. I paid $450 for my child to be there, not taken care of for 6 hours... PLEASE don't let them do the same to your child.

New owner as of June 2012, ANY good reviews you read will have most likely been written before the ownership change. You couldn't pay me to use this facility. I personally watched the Director pick pineapple out of canned fruit cocktail to feed to a child with a pineapple allergy. Direct quote from her "This child only gets horrible stomach pains and diarrhea from pineapple, so picking it out isn't considered cross-contamination, it will be ok". I've watched them pick rotten lettuce out of bags of expired salad to feed to the whole center. The quality of care varies based upon the teacher, some teachers are ok at best, others are horrible and have been witnessed yelling at children on a daily basis within earshot of the owner and management with no consequences. Staff mops several times a day, leaving mop buckets with several inches of dirty water unattended around children, I have witnessed children playing with the water on several occasions. Staff is not required to have a current tb test to work there. I could go on but hopefully this has been enough. Please don't trust these people with your children.
