My 3 yr old son has attended the Learning Tree for the last year and he has benefited from every day of attendance. At the preschool we used prior to the Learning Tree, my son used to cry every time we would drop him off and would never behave as if he liked going to school (this was before he could verbalize his thoughts). My husband and I had our hands tied as other preschools in the area were all full, but since moving to AZ and enrolling my son at the Learning Tree, not only did the crying when we left stop, but he immediately blossomed. The sudden and noticeably positive difference in his development really made me question the tactics of his last preschool which seemed to put up with the kids rather than interact and get involved with them. Sonia Rodriguez and her staff have been such a positive influence in my son’s life that I would highly recommend this preschool to anyone. The kids are always kept in a constructive environment from the daily academics (note that this is not a daycare, but rather beginning education) to free play and structured play. The children are taught to play with each other, to share, to have order and to listen. And yes, my son did come home dirty from play more often than not, but I would much rather him be out having a good day than existing in a sterile environment where kids are not allowed to be kids. He’s 3 and very much a boy, of course he’s going to get in the dirt! The classroom environment is structured and disciplined (I use this word on purpose as children need some boundaries placed in their lives from an early age to help them define their world, not to dominate or subjugate, but to better prepare them for life and future schooling) in a way that helps the kids learn as evidenced by my son’s progress verbally and academically as well as emotionally and developmentally. The school embraces the holidays and celebrates each one with parties and other exciting activities which my son has loved. The kitchen and the diversity of meals has turned my once picky eater into a meal eating champ. The fact that they serve meals may not be important to some, but to my son, who didn’t like hamburgers, cheese sandwiches, pizza, mac and cheese, and a plethora of other generally liked meals, the fact that all the kids sit down and eat the same thing encouraged him to try all the things that he formerly “disliked” and like magic he now will eat just about everything. His former refusal to try new things has all but vanished as well. My son if anything is stubborn, so seeing other kids eating and enjoying their food worked wonders on him. There are many other great things I could say, but I will end with this: send your child to the Learning Tree and he/she will be better for it!
