Description: By 1920, Greenville had grown out Augusta Road, past Grove Road, where the pavement ended. Augusta Circle School and the Greenville Country Club had been built, yet the area retained its rural atmosphere. Into this setting, Augusta Road Baptist Church was born from the hearts of members of two nearby churches: Greenville First Baptist and Pendleton Street Baptist. These churches held an organizational meeting in April 1924, organized the Sunday School on May 11, and held the first worship service on May 18. In September the church called her first pastor, Reverend M.L. Bannister.
