I've been meaning to write a review for sometime now. After reading the previous comments I feel that as a current parent it's time to shed some light on what is really going on at SOECA. I have had my daughter at SOECA since she was 2 years old and just like other centers the school has some issues but they are constantly working on improving problems. I used the think that I staff changes over too frequently, but while talking to friends I understand that this is not an SOECA issues it's a world wide issue. The turn-over rate with educators is extremely high with public and private. I am glad that the old assistant director left, she was extremely rude and constantly in her office on the cellphone. Every time we enter the building we are always greeted by the receptionist and the entire administration staff. I am keeping my now grade school student at the school and I love the direction the school is heading.
Now addressing the issues I read in the previous reviews:
The directors daughter working at the school- Yes, it's true and my family loves it. You can tell that since the directors daughter works at the school she works harder that most staff members. She is more than qualified, she is a certified teacher and has a graduated degree. (I can't remember if it's in child psychology or education, but she has one). The only time that I've seen her laying on the sofa was when it was after 8:00pm after a long meeting and I was having car issues and they stayed with me until my ride came. She is always helping me if I am having a problem checking in and treats my daughter really nice. We love her.
The old receptionist and assistant director did leave: The old receptionist left because she was getting married and had to move. Not because she didn't love SOECA. I'm glad the old assistant director left she was extremely unprofessional.
Staff Morale- I'm not a staff member so I can't speak much on that but I can say the Direction goes all out celebrating the staff birthdays and work anniversaries. And I know the PTA does a lot of things for the staff.
I love that the school is growing and heading a positive direction. They are quality rated now and they are certified under The National Association of Private Schools.
I wanted my child to attend this Academy, because we are members of the church Word of Faith. However, after dealing with this school for the past 3 years it was very clear that the Board of Directors nor the investor (assuming the church family) are involved in the unprofessionalism that occurs on a daily basis at SOECA. My child did fine the first 2 years with an energetic teacher who was willing to be creative with her teaching style which all the parents loved. Even though the administration had nasty attitudes, gossip on the phone loudly on a daily basis, and when addressed about issues concerning teacher/student relations they always were on the defense as if they did not want to be held liable for any wrong actions. The last year of my child's attendance and after speaking with several parents we realized that this year we would just be paying for a "babysitter" and not for the education that you expect to receive paying for a private school tuition bill. We had to supplement at home the entire time to make sure our child was ready for a new school and new school year. I will be writing the board of directors and church with all my documented concerns, because if things do not change they will continue to lose enrollment and money. If you want your child to learn stay away from this school, but if you want a babysitter and a seemingly safe environment then this is the school for you. I only give it 2 stars and not less because of the first 2 years being bearable due to the previous teacher, but the administration has always been horrible all 3 years of attendance. Last year many teachers and left and the same thing happened this year including many students. I only know of 3 teachers I would recommend that are still there. The Director and Assistant Director both need to be terminated in order for this school to change the atmosphere.
The Executive Director is trying to push too many elementary grades and does not have the resources to follow through. She has low moral in her school and doesn't appreciate her staff. One of her teachers was apart of the CRCT scandal!! What in the world!! She hires her family (daughter, niece and close family friends) and it makes it hard for the teachers to deal with that if they are unhappy about something concerning them. They end up talking to the families about it. The Board of Directors have NO IDEA what goes on at that school. They won't talk to us. The instructional Liaison has no knowledge of anything and just jumps when the Executive says jump. Very unprofessional. The teachers need guidance and she is not giving it to them. The Assistant Director moved on, the receptionist moved on and the replacement receptionist moved on and she tells the parents that she is happy about it. Her daughter is always sleep on her couch even when parents walk into her office!!This school needs prayer and the Executive needs to be held accountable and her family needs to be removed from the school. Bishop needs to come and re-bless it. I pulled my rising Pre-k student OUT!!!
I would not recommend this school. My son has been constantly ridiculed by the administration since he turned two. Instead of helping us guide him through the changes that occur once a child turns 2; they became cold and and unwelcoming towards him. the administration is rude and often will not speak to him. Beyond the immature and unprofessional behavior of the staff the curriculum they implement is sub par. On Friday afternoons instead of learning, or participating in something to develop the children. SOECA will have "movie day" which is not outlined in their handbook. One should seriously consider the quality of care you want for your child before sending them here.
