Children are OFTEN left without ratio of 1 teacher to every 8 students. Teachers frequently dismiss themselves for cigarette breaks, leaving assistants to do much of the work alone with 18 students. It is an everyday (sometimes every hour) occurance that teachers publically ridicule students in front of other teachers, peers, out of disgust, or negativity directed to students. Students participate in Specials classes outside of their room like a K-5 student as opposed to teachers utilizing classtime to teach these as centers or in classroom. Then complain when they don't get "specials" time. The only sound educational positive experience kids have here is with the assistants. Without them, the kids would suffer worse. Often the teachers don't buckle kids in, or follow the PK protocol.
