About the Provider

Description:

The staff establishes positive personal interaction, nurturing each child’s growth and education. We plan for all areas of a child’s development: cognitive, emotional, social, creative, and physical. Individuality is acknowledged and respected as each child explores a child-centered environment at his or her own pace.

A strong sense of identity and competence are developed as children are helped to feel good about themselves, their abilities and uniqueness.

The Center recognizes the need for working closely with families to achieve these goals.

We believe that young children learn best through play and exploration of a variety of materials and activities in a safe and healthy environment. This is facilitated by the teacher, who structures the classroom environment and schedule of activities to meet the needs of each child in an age appropriate and stimulating environment.

Children develop and learn in the context of their families and the community. We create a stimulating, accepting and nurturing environment by establishing collaborative relationships with families. These emphasize mutual respect, cooperation, frequent two way communication and shared decision making roles in the program.

Additional Information:

We offer the free VPK program and we have webcams in all the classrooms.

Ms. B Aug 31, 2015

Hello all parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles…

My name is Bernadette however most at The Little House Next Door call me Ms. B. As of early 2015 I became and have had the pleasure of being the center’s director. Of course as a new director of a child care facility it is my responsibility to immediately make known to our teachers, our parents and the community what our priorities are. For The Little House Next Door Child Development Center our priorities are the safety of our children, communication with our families and the education of our students. And we have been doing such an awesome job!

As to our families who have had any negative experiences regarding The Little House. I am sincerely sorry for the unfortunate circumstances you dealt with. It is a blessing to your children that your involvement in their education is as passionate as it is. Feel assured that your thoughts have been taken seriously and The Little House Next Door is very adamant about our priorities, our love of children and our dream of stronger communities by helping families.

We love our center... please always feel free to stop by and see just how passionate we are as well, in the care of our children.

Disappointed Sep 18, 2013

The Little House Next Door has been a huge disappointment for my family and I. First impression was that the day care was very clean and that Lisa Shannon the director was very involved in activities that take place. While meeting with Lisa before enrolling my child into the school she was cordial and acted like this day care was more of a learning institution for children than a daycare. Within the first few weeks I noticed Lisa was never there at either drop off time or pick up which for me was 8 and 5. The only times I would see her was if I had to drop him off late or picked him up early. The few time i spoke to her she was very rude and made me feel like i was a bother. Also she made it quite evident the school was struggling because they were not at capacity and all she cared about was the money. The teachers at little house were great if they were to get another director in there I feel like they would be a great daycare!!

**********LITTLE HOUSE NEXT DOOR, DELAND FLORIDA**********

As a mom, I have randomly checked the review websites for new reviews of The Little House Next Door since having posted my own experience in 2012. I had not previously seen the post by Delandparent on 07/23/2012. I am so sorry you had such a negative experience as did we, but so glad you took the time to post your experience so that other parents or caretakers looking for Child Care Centers are fully aware of what they are getting into when looking into facilities. I have also copy & pasted my original review in 2012 as it appears I missed this site for reviews. After all, we as parents are OUR CHILDREN'S BEST ADVOCATES. ********Additionally, for those Directors, Managers etc..., who have considered attempting to have negative reviews regarding The Little House Next Door, deleted from the Review Sites, please know that should you actually be capable of doing that by contacting a System Administrator, I would only continue to re post the review. Parents have a right to make informed decisions when relying on others to care for thier children.

Further, is the Little House Next Door NOT reporting to parents when a employee has been TERMINATED for what they cite as Improper Conduct to or against a child or are they reporting to parents that the employee left for "Personal Reasons"?

***************************************************************************************************

This is my experience and opinion regarding my experience with The Little House Next Door. I recognize not all have experienced what I did but I think it's important to inform others when it comes to our children. After all we are our children's BEST Advocates and having to negotiate for thier safety should not have to happen, with that said...., I would never send my child to this facility again nor would I recommend it to anyone. Sadly, this was not the case in the beginning. While the facility is clean and offers a Web Base Security Access to check on your child via a web cam, there were many times it did not work properly. It can provide a false sense of security for parents as well. Furthermore, cameras are not in areas that it would make common sense to monitor and or should be monitored (playground) . The Director is not who she portrays herself to be. Upon first contact she appears to be caring, genuine, etc. however when it comes to addressing SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES once brought to her attention in my case, she gave a whole lot of lip service and fixed NOTHING. The Director of the Little House Next Door Facility as well as the Actual Director of The House Next Door who is the "man in charge" allowed a child with no reported or documented behaviors of problems be bullied by another student to the point of NUMEROUS REPORTS of hands on and physical violence occur to not only my child but others as well. The Director of the Little House Next Door made excuses such as "boys will be boys" and that the male child(ren) were just "alpha males". Seriously at three you will label a child as being "alpha male" to justify his behavior of violence. Poor and sad decision making. Even worse when a Formal Complaint was filed by myself with the ACTUAL Supervising Facility, The House Next Door, Director as well as the Human Resource Director it ultimately led to the withdrawal of my child so they could keep the child with the serious behavior issues. Let me put it this way, they felt that myself and another parent had valid enough complaints to remove the child with behavior issues from his normal setting in the morning session with our children. This was done because the Main Director of The House Next Door had "serious safety concerns" after having the Human Resource Director conduct a Formal Investigation into the complaint. The Human Resource Director after observing the childs documented Incident Reports of behavior and his actual behavior found that there were concerns that should have been addressed by the Facility Director of The LITTLE House Next Door and that still needed to be addressed. So remove him from the morning class where he victimized kids and then in the afternoon, put him back into the classroom (mixed with the VPK kids ) in the afternoon with our children who were the victims. The afternoon session meant there was even LESS Supervision and more children. What a mess this place is. Ultimately, my child was removed and yet she was not the problem. My understanding then became that approximately one month after I withdrew my child for fear of continued violence, this same male child was expelled/ removed from the facility due to continued and repeat acts of violence against other children. So, before you enroll your child check to see how many FORMAL COMPLAINTS to the actual organization, The House Next Door have been filed, founded, sustained etc..If the record keeping is accurate you will find at least one, mine. In hindsight, what I should have done is contacted DCF since they are the licensing agency of this facility to at least document the areas of concern. I was hopeful however that it could have been best handled in an Internal Capacity, wow what a huge mistake that was. I should have notified the department. To sum it up, things are not, nor are pople always who they portray themselves to be. It can look good in the aesthetics, people can appear to act as though they are addressing your complaints but be leary and always, always document in writing when you have an issue. The Director at this daycare does NOT like to have to respond in writing and does everything possible to avoid it...best thing about this place was a few of the teachers however, they are not allowed to communicate with you it has to be done through the facility Director. In my opinion, not a good choice, talk to other parents and I hope they are honest with you if they have had negative or even positive personal experiences. Food for thought, total of four children were removed from this facility due to acts of violence against them while in the care of this facility. Things that make you say hmmm......New Director and one who is more involved with the actual facility and not about numbers ($) as well as some other changes in staff and upper supervisory management, it could be awesome. FRUSTRATED MOM!

The director, LISA SHANNON, does place high priority on the safety, education or well being of the children.  When she is t the center, which is rare, her primary concern is money and number of kids at the center. Children are constantly injured and hurt and, beyond the legally required incident report, nothing is done to resolve the issue, even when things are escalated above the director.  4 and 5 yr olds are allowed to be in the same room as infants and toddlers resulting in numerous injuries.  Although access to webcams seems like a comforting and open door feature provided by the Little House Next Door, they rarely work and when they do, the teachers are either not in the room or not watching the kids.  Almost every time I've been on the webcams, I've seen bigger kids beating up on smaller ones and when I ask why this is allowed to happen, it’s said that kids will be kids.  Also, forget about making any complaints or asking the director to resolve or address an issue professionally.  Her solution is to advise the teachers to treat you badly so you leave and "fake it" that they are addressing the issues.  If you leave, they have one more government sponsored delinquent to replace you.  There are very few “paying” parents any longer.  We have all come to our senses and gone where our children are safe, educated and cared for.  Lisa Shannon’s solution to “filling the quota of kids” is accepting children that other centers won’t and giving those kids’ parents discounts or access to government assistance.  Also, there was a great deal of money raised in a cookie drive Lisa initiated.  However, not one dime was put back into the classrooms for the kids.  Where did that money go?  The teachers, except for the personal friends of LISA SHANNON, are treated like dirt.  If you care about your kids, keep them away from LISA SHANNON and the Little House Next Door.
