Description: Plaza Community Services provides child care to the most economically disadvantaged families in East Los Angeles. Many of the families we serve are blue collar workers who earn less than minimum wage. The child development program gives priority to children that have been abused, neglected, referred by the court and children from low income parents who work, attend school or are seeking employment.
Plaza has three State Preschool Child Development Centers in East Los Angeles that serve 200 children from 3 to 4 years of age. Each classroom is staffed by a qualified Teacher and assistants, working under the supervision of the Site Supervisor and Director. The centers are open from Monday to Friday, five days per week from 6:30a.m to 6:00p.m. to meet the families’ rigorous work schedules. We provide two healthy meals and snacks every day.
We also have a Family Child Care Home Educational Network that serves over 300 children from 6 weeks to 3 years of age throughout East Los Angeles and neighboring cities. The days and hours of operation of our home network are determined at each home and may differ.
Activities for the children are based on Imagine-It and Core Knowledge, both of which are research based curriculums. The teachers offer activities that promote and support learning and cognitive, language, social, emotional and physical development. The program provides:
A balance of indoor and outdoor activities each day.
All children are encouraged to participate in all activities.
A balance of teacher-initiated and child-initiated activities.
Each child’s progress is assessed based on the Desired Results Developmental Profile. Children are assessed within 60 days of enrollment into the program and twice each year thereafter. In addition, we utilize the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale and a parent survey to evaluate the program to assist in making program modifications to improve the quality and delivery of services.
Where possible, ChildcareCenter provides inspection reports as a service to families. This information is deemed reliable, but is not guaranteed. We encourage families to contact the daycare provider directly with any questions or concerns, as the provider may have already addressed some or all issues. Reports can also be verified with your local daycare licensing office.
