About the Provider

Description:

At the GLOW YMCA we license our School Age Child Care (SACC) programs through New York State's Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS).  Licensing our SACC programs through NYS ensures that the following standards are met:

  • Parent Involvement: Parents are the key to quality child care and have the right to visit the program at any time to observe or visit their child.
  • Adult-Child Ratios: Stricit regulations are used to assure that your child is properly supervised and receives the attention they deserve.
  • Training & Experience: All staff are required to have previous child care experience and must receive ongoing training in 9 topic ares including nutrition, child abuse prevention and program development.
  • Inspections: Licensed child care programs must be inspected at least once before renewal (every 2 years).
  • Complaints: The NYS OCFS maintains a statewide, toll free Child Care Complaint Line at 1-800=732-5207.

The YMCA has been long standing as the nations largest child care provider.  As part of the YMCA Mission to "Build Strong Kids, Strong Families, and Strong Communities", we incorporate Character Development into our programs by following the YMCA's four core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Additional Information:

The acitivites included in our SACC programs encourage personal growth for every child enrolled.  Our staff work with the children to develop programming that adheres to their interests.  Our daily routine foucses on the following key areas:

We encourage the children in our SACC programs to develop through hands-on learning experiences.  We provide opportunities for children to work in large groups of various ages, as well as small groups of similar ages. Our goal is to help build strong children who are accepting of all types of people. which in turn helps build strong families and strong communities!

I have my child in the program now and am very dissatisfied. I am presently looking into other options. On two occasions , I have picked my child up and I have been the one to stop a verbal confrontation between my child and another child. The staff didn't do anything to stop it. Also, one of the employees, said some really inappropriate things about my child's family member and did it right in front of the whole room. My son found out about it a few days later and told me about it. I have made several complaints to the day care director but have never received any response as to how this is being handled. The before and afterschool program the school district had BEFORE the Y was 5 star rating...
