Description: Head Start and Early Head Start helps to build a foundation for children's success. Head Start/Early Head Start are comprehensive programs designed to foster the healthy development of young children from low-income families. The programs have grown from a brief, eight-week summer program for preschoolers in 1965 to a year-round program today, serving children from birth to four and pregnant women.
The Head Start Bureau (HSB), the Administration on Children, Youth and Families (ACYF) Administration for Children and Families (ACF), and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) administer the Head Start program.
