Child Haven - Las Vegas NV INSTITUTION

I remember I was here back when that scandal had come out about the staff abusing the children I remember like it was yesterday ,I also remember when I saw my classmate here and a guy jump the fence to escape ,I remember a lot of things they took us to go watch a softball game ,years later after I left Nevada and moved to Texas I became a softball player ,they put me on to starwars here ,I had a sibling who had gotten hurt and caught ringworms because the sandy area has a cat problem where the cat would pee in the sand ,I lived here that night the girl had gotten assaulted yes that was so long ago I was just a little girl I remember the man who did that to her too,such a shame I remember when some of the kids were bullied the staff did nothing to resolve the issue ,but I also remember miss April ,she would get mad that I would call her miss Oprah instead of April ,she had a nasty additude ????, but I was very glad my mom (may she rest her soul) had gotten herself together and got us up outta there .I'm 25 now and it blows my mind I was in this place!

I was in Child Haven a couple times in the early 00's. I was pretty young, but I remember most people being pretty kind and caring. We all wore the same stuff it seemed like; I remember us all matching and the girls hairstyles pretty similar. In the summer we had water games and water slide stuff to do. They tried to make the experience of being away from your family enjoyable. I think my first time was a better experience than my second time though. Side note: I just wish the case workers at that time who worked with the foster kids, listened better to the kids. I was in many homes where they were abusive, and my workers either didnt believe me or looked the other way. I have diagnosed PTSD from the foster system, going through nearly 24 homes in such a short timeframe and the abuse I endured from some families. I hope whoever is in it gets adopted and finds a beautiful home and family to grow up with.

I suggest it to have a different program it's not safe for no one people just don't care.its alot of things.

My name is Lisa Matthews. My experience took place back in the mid to late. As a child my 3 brothers and myself were picked up from school by social services. My mother had basically abandoned us. I will NEVER forget that day when we were taken away. We were all in elementary school. Young and not knowing what was going on. Terrified doesn't begin to describe what I was feeling. Long story short. We were taken to Child Haven. A Haven is exactly what it was. I very a very shy kid, but all of the workers there were so kind and attentive. It still brings tears to my eyes the level of care that was given to my brothers and myself. The care the had been missing for so long. Once my father learned that we had been picked up and placed there he came and picked us up. Im so grateful for such a wonderful and caring experience. Please continue to be an amazing impact in the lives of needy children as you so desperately were in mine.

I am 10 years and now im at a foster home she is realy mean to me and I loved child haven it was the best place ever Jazlyn and Giana were very good freinds to me and every one ot child haven I love it there.

Í was fortunate to work at Child Haven in the Youth Girls cottage in the 70´s. Best years of my career. I can’t call it a job because it was way more than that to me. I’ve run across this posting and so happy I did. I have wondered about so many of you and your “rest of the story”. The terms safe and secure and cared for and happy are all the things we strived for while the adults in your lives got things under control. We hung out with the Teen Girls Cottage and Miss Cathy is still my very good friend. Thanks for your kind words.

I was living there about 30 yrs ago. Went there a few times. I was in young girls part than the teens. I remember Lisa was a lady who worked there. She helped me through my preagnacy I was 15 and abandoned by my mom. This place is awesome. I made a best friend there here name was Hillary. She had to leave right away. I miss my friend and all of you. If you ever want to talk even the newer people in the homes I'm here for you. One thing I can say is keep going no matter what. Feel good about you and be strong. I have went to child Haven bc I got left at summerlin hospital,n I was scared when I first went there n didn't like it there, but once I started to get to know everyone n the staff, it wasn't all that bad. I started to love it there. All the staff is super nice n I love them all. Now that I left, I kinda wish I could go back n be there permanently. I miss it there n they have wonderful people there. They made me feel loved n cared for, they made sure I was safe, n they made sure I was healthy. I learned so much when I was there. They changed me to be a better person. I love u child Haven. I wish I could of done something special for all the staff that works so hard. Y'all deserve it.

Child Haven is a Nice place . The Staff's are Nice, Respectful & some of them will be nice enough to buy you chips. if your respectful to them. The Staffs care about us (kids) it hurts them when kids are disrespectful or when kids Runaway the reason why they don't stop you is because there not allowed too. If it was for me I would like to stay there permanently because I was a broken and abused child, and every staff at Child Haven made sure I was loved and cared for. I am forever grateful for that Much love. Child Haven is a excellent place. :))

I was in and out of Child Heaven as a kid. My experience depended on which house I was in. When I was in the young girl house (I can't remember the house names) everything was pleasant and I felt safe and loved. When I was in the teen house I felt nervous and scared. The teens themselves always acted out over every little thing. That kept us all in trouble all the time. I ended up asking my worker to put me in the young girl house again and things were much better. I don't know where I would be without Child Heaven. I am incredibly grateful for them.

My younger brother baby sister & I spent some time in Child Haven in the mid 70’s. I remember feeling a little scared and frightened when the News reporters and camera people arrived where we were headline news on the front page of the Las Vegas Sun? It’s been so long ago,as we were at a babysitters house and they claimed we were abandoned by our mother who never returned or called for days. We were taken to the police station and transferred to child haven. Where the people were caring and kind and loving. It is very disheartening to hear of the negligence that seems to be happening there now by some of the staff but these children have already endured enough. Please take care of these children as they are precious and did not ask for the position they are in.

I am currently in child haven. When I first got there I wanted to die. I am absolutely miserable and want to escape . The children are rude, staff does not care about getting you out, and my caseworker never answers her phone . I usually think of running out of my school to home because of how bad child haven is. I freaking hate it. I go crazy. Absolutely crazy . I .do.not.like.child.haven. I miss my family so much . They don't put the effort in taking you back home. DONT GO TO CHILD HAVEN

In 1970, my brother and I stayed here for a few weeks, until our grandparents could arrange for us to be flown to Texas. I remember that they had many activities for us children to participate in.

As a child, I was in Child Haven three times. Each time I was there I felt safe, secure, cared for, and happy. I was there as a toddler, an 11 year old and a teenager. Not once did I feel abused, or unsafe either by staff or other kids. In fact being there was some of my best times as a child.

Child Haven is not a good or safe place to be. I was there for just a little over a week and in that time, an 11 year old girl there was raped by her 10 year old roomate. The staff were notified by her and by me as soon as I heard about it. They moved her out of the room, but the 10 year old girl was allowed to continue being around the other girls and go about her day like she'd done nothing wrong. I was angered by this, and so I asked why the staff weren't doing anything, and I was told that it didn't happen, based on the room check every 15 minutes rule. I know that it happened because I heard the 10 year old perpetrator admit to it. Even if the room checks had been done as they were supposed to be, a lot of things can happen in 15 minutes. No one has a right to justify that as a reason to say that it didn't happen. Allegations like that should not be taken lightly. Not only did that happen, but 2 girls were severly triggered by a belt being snapped by a staff member. Another girl and I both told this staff member that the sound can be triggering and asked him to stop, but he did not. After he finally did stop, the girls were already in a severe state; one of them was even unresponsive. The staff member shrugged it off, and after apologizing, went around saying, in a very rude manner, that they were overreacting and he didn't get why they were crying. The people working in places like this should be considerate of the fact that many of the people having to stay there have been through trauma, and they need to be careful due to that. If I could give Child Haven negative stars I would.

The system is too difficult in the matters if reuniting the child with the parent. In today's age and time. I, amongst others believe that if the parent is showing sincere effort to show that they are capable of supporting their child either: with the help of others, or while building a support a support system.

I have few very pleasant memories as a child, and some of those memories are being cared for so sweetly at Child Haven. They did what they could with what they could with the short time they have with the children here and I hope they know some children cherish it as I do.

my kids were in and outta there with in 8 hours. they are a very nice to your children,and make sure they are comfortable and hapy

I was in and out of Child Haven as a child. My worker and them made me feel loved and important when no one else would. I am truly grateful!

Wow I cannot believe it's been 20 years since I was cared for at Child Haven. It was/is my best childhood experience. I don't remember one single negative thing. I was a broken and abused child, and everyone at Child Haven made sure I was loved and cared for. I am forever grateful for that. Much love.
