THIS IS CHILD TWO TO BE HERE. MY GRANDS ARE SPEAKING SPANISH, SIGN LANGUAGE AND ARE TOPS IN THEIR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CLASSES. LOVE ALL THE EMPLOYEES HERE. MS. IRIS AND MS. DENISE ARE THE BOMB.
I totally disagree with the aforementioned review. My children attended AJ Ward and I have volunteered at the school on occasion. The first thing I want to say is. My kids attended 15 years ago and the same staff is still working there. Do you know how rare it is to retain staff that long in the childcare industry? That in and of itself speaks volumes about its director/owner Ms. Marjorie. She is Montessori trained and has trained her staff accordingly. They may not be certified but they are trained. I can attest to this because I grew up in a Montessori school from age 4-8. I recognize the materials and learning stations I worked with as a kid.
It's a school of good intentions, but I will never recommend anyone to take their child there, or work there. The environment is pretty, but there are not enough activities that are developmentally appropriate, and most of the teachers are not trained Montessori, which creates more stress on the children and the teacher. With the stress, there is a lot of emphasis placed on discipline than would be necessary if the activities and schedule were more developmentally appropriate for the children. The structure is too rigid for young children of that age. The set of the center would be for children who are FULLY potty-trained, disciplined and quiet. Which represents a small percentage of children. There is a happy and sad face chart, which is hardly ever accurate, and it just creates tension between the parents and their children. There is never enough time in the day for teachers to complete their planning and lessons, and daily cleaning, which creates even more stress on the teacher, which radiates to the children. From observing parents, I have heard a few times that they are searching for another center for their child.
