Alice Rainbow Child CAre Center, Rainbow. We are a non-profit childcare center serving the Iowa City Community since 1972. We are housed in two, formerly private homes located in a wooded area near UIHC and the Boyd Law Building. We are open year-round, closing for University of Iowa office holidays, spring break, one week during winter break and one teacher work day in late August.

PAL provides behavior focused afterschool programming for children ages 5-12 with behavioral disorders. PAL is available after school and on weekdays when school is not in session, and includes a full-day summer program. Programming includes social, recreational and educational activities carried out in a closely supervised and structured environment. Behavior management, social skill-building, and problem-solving skills are emphasized. PAL also offers a monthly parent support group, individual and family skill-building sessions and on-site therapy available.
Established in 1982, Good Shepherd Center (GSC) has provided high quality early childhood education for children in the Iowa City/Coralville area for over 25 years. Originally established in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Melrose Avenue, we've moved into our own facility on Greenwood Avenue, next to Roosevelt Elementary.
Kids Care of Iowa City is the area's premiere Before and After School program. We transport children to and from Lemme, Hoover and Lucas Elementary Schools. We offered full daycare (7:00am - 5:30pm) on no school conference days, winter break, spring break (enrollment minimum must be met). We have a full summer camp during the entire summer. All children throughout the community are welcome. Each week has a theme. We enjoy swimming, field trips, crafts and much more. Kids Care of Iowa City strives to teach our children the importance of giving to others. We have participated in many service projects. In the past we contributed to the U of I Children's Hospital by donating stuffed animals at Christmastime and held our own Mini Dance Marathon to raise money for pediatric oncology patients and their families. We sponsored the Help a Hero program and collected toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss and mouth wash for soldiers abroad. We are proud sponsors of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and Mayors Youth Empowerment Program.
Shimek Elementary is located at 1400 Grissel Place, Iowa City, in a quiet eastside neighborhood surrounded by woods and native prairie. Featuring contemporary architecture set in a beautifully landscaped open area, the school is named after a native Iowan, Bohumil Shimek. who made important contributions as a geologist, botanist, zoologist, educator, engineer, conservationist, patriot and citizen. Shimek Elementary opened in the fall of 1970 and consists of EC/SE (Early Childhood/Special Education) and grades K-6 students. Students attend South East Junior High and City High.
