Kids Co. launched in the spring of 1989 with the simple belief that every child needs a safe place to be while their parents are at work. Over time, this foundational idea grew to become a multi-site organization known for its quality childcare and for its leadership in advancing best practices in all aspects of its operation. At present, Kids Co. offers before school and after school care, preschool programming, and summer day-camp for children ages 3 to 12, and has ten centers conveniently located on the grounds of Seattle and Greater Seattle area public schools. The organization reflects the spirit and vision of its founders, Susan R. Brown and Elaine Matthes, in its aim to create engaging communities for kids that families can trust. The importance of trust is at the heart of all that we do. It shapes who we recruit and hire, how we interact with kids and families, and how we support the communities and schools where we are located. It even shapes how we treat one another. Fundamentally, childcare is a profession of cultivating healthy, life-engaging relationships. We believe that in helping children discover their gifts, explore the world and make life-long friends, we help families in our community thrive for generations to come. Kids Co. frontline childcare professionals design curriculum that supports this ultimate aim, programming that is creative, fun and tailored to the unique needs of the kids and families they serve. No family is ever turned away due to inability to pay, and Kids Co. strives to provide uninterrupted care for each child enrolled, because relationship disruptions can be devastating for kids—as well as for parents. Contributions to Kids Co. help underwrite the tuition assistance we provide to families experiencing financial distress. We invite you to watch the video on this page and discover Kids Co. through the eyes of our kids.
