Having worked at this day care in the past, I would not recommend taking your kids here.
The children were threatened that if they would not cooperate they would be put in time out, or, in some cases, not be allowed to eat their snack.
There was a 'naughty' list that was publicly available for any parent to see what each child did, and children were shamed time and time again for what they did wrong rather than helping the child to understand what they could have done instead, or why it was wrong.
The kids, ages 3-5 were forced to participate in group, where they would dance, and sit for story time. If they would not be quiet during the story or if they were not in the mood to dance, they were put in time out.
The language used with the children was not appropriate by any means, such as telling some kids that they were bad/terrible/mean etc.
Educational materials were often placed out of the children's reach, and were not always given to the kids when they asked for them.
Children were sometimes placed in high chairs all day long if they did something really 'bad,' and they would only get out of the high chair for meals and nap. The parents knew this was happening, but it made me very uncomfortable and upset.
The food was all very unhealthy. Hash browns were provided as a vegetable some days, and candy was given on a regular bases if children ate all their food for lunch, and other children that didn't were shamed for not eating all their food.
The pre-school curriculum was thrown together, and not very well structured at all.
Small toys were not sanitized on a daily basis.
In the baby house, the employees would occasionally microwave breast milk.
Babies were put in their cribs with blankets, which is a suffocation hazard and is not supposed to be allowed in day care.
Probably the only reason this facility had a high accreditation level, was because they would pretend they didn't do any of the above mentioned things when an accreditation person or social worker would come in.
I could probably write a longer review than this, but all in all, I would not recommend this day care to anyone.
I feel like all the parents should know that this is not a place you want to take your kiddies. Very unprofessional employees, and owner. I witnessed some things that made me very uncomfortable and confronted Carey multiple times with the issues. She literally laughed in my face. It was my job to take care of those kid's, and be a voice and I felt like it was all a joke when it came down to their well-being. Please make sure you pay attention to where you're sending your kid's and babies. I wouldn't even send my dog here.
I'm not one to give bad reviews but I feel morally obligated to inform other parents. The kids at Carey's child care were constantly reprimanded causing a negative, hostile environment. There was a "bad list" that most children were added to daily. In my opinion there should have been a good list instead. Rather than working toward a solution with the kids repeatedly in trouble, they were yelled at and/or put in time-out. Time-out was a high chair in a separate room from kids and staff. Children were forced to pray before meals. They were threatened that they wouldnt be fed if they didnt pray together. Meals were pre-packaged and very unhealthy. French fries counted as vegetables. Candy was awarded to those who ate all of their lunch. Without a chance to run around and burn off all those empty calories, they had to nap after lunch and were punished if they couldnt fall asleep. I often felt that they were being set up for failure. I recommend spending a full day observing before enrolling your children.
We had very high hopes for Carey's Child Care. Unfortunately we left disappointed. She is very lax in the overall structure of the daycare. The children are allowed to wrestle and rough play, but if someone actually gets hurt then it becomes the blame game and finger pointing between the "friends". We felt (almost from day one) that our son was singled out as the "bad" kid. No matter what the circumstance was he was the one who started it, hurt someone, did not listen etc. Her preschool curriculum also has a lot be desired. My son learned more with us at home than he ever did with her. Bigger preschool size does not always equal better quality. We are happy we left and are now somewhere my son can get the individual care and attention he deserves.
