Hello,

 My name is DeRose Stewart , I have been in child care for 20 years, 6 years in a daycare center and in my home for 14. I believe in concentrating on the children.  To plan activities to their needs,to follow their lead to help explore, interact ,have choices and to have fun in a safe and loving environment. I have a degree in Art and have taught in plubic schools in Roberson County.  I serve brackfast, lunch, and afternoon snack.  I am involved with Smart Start and Family Childcare Assoc. and I am a 5 star home care.

In the kitchen unlocked pantry, two (2) aerosol cans of Pam cooking spray were located on the bottom shelf and one (1) unopened bottle of Smirnoff vodka was located sitting on the floor.

The unlocked cabinet above the washing machine housed saw blade, nails, screws, and a screw driver.

The unlocked cabinet above the dryer, housed bleach, WD-40, and additional cleaning supplies. Ms. Stewart corrected this during the visit by locking the cabinet.

Indoor and outdoor area was not checked daily for debris, vandalism, broken equipment, and animal waste. Outdoors there were three (3) trikes that were broken and showing rust. One (1) radio flyer seat was broken with sharp edges and showing rust. One (1) safety first trike handle grips were torn and showing rust. One (1) little tikes trike seat was broken with sharp edges.

In the restroom, a bottle of Odo Ban odor eliminator had keep out of reach of children with additional warning was unlocked in a basket on the wall up five (5) feet. Ms. Stewart did move this to a locked area during the visit. In the book room, a aerosol can of Mainstay room spray was located on a book shelf behind the hand sanitizer. Ms. Steward moved this to a locked area during the visit. In the kitchen, bleach wipes were stored in a basket above the kitchen sink. The great value bleach wipes had keep out of reach of children with additional warnings. During the visit Ms. Stewart moved these to a locked area.

Operator did not provide a physically safe and healthy indoor and outdoor environment that meets the developmental needs of the children in care. In the outdoor play space, the privacy fence in the back right corner needs to be repaired. A board was not secured to the fence. Rust was exposed on the red and blue see saw. Lattice at the bottom left corner of the porch had a gap that needs to be closed to prevent a child from trying to go under the porch.

Operator and/or staff who work with children, did not complete health and safety training as part of on-going training so that every five years, all the topic areas were covered. Ms. Stewart completed the first health and safety training topic 2/15/2017 and the five-year expiration date of that training was 2/15/2022.

Operator did not successfully complete a first aid course as referenced in Rule.1702(b)(2) First aid training was not renewed on or before the expiration of the certification. Last first aid certification expired 10/12/21.
