I am an employee

I was an employee of this very sad daycare unfortunately for some time. The children are forced to sit though at least 2+ hours of “movie time” a day where they sit in chairs at one table surrounding a tablet. Toddlers are forced to sit next to preschoolers as classes are combined whenever convenient to the director. The children have less than 10 minutes to eat, although regulations require at least 30. Children’s food is thrown out by the staff if they don’t comply. The children are also forced to nap for 3 whole hours, without being allowed have an alternative activity, which is also against regulations. Regulations aren’t generally ignored at this center as by the direction of the director, Milene Olmo. The director has also supports the use of time out and alienating children from the group over typical behaviors. Unreasonable expectations are given to all of the children, including infants. The director is known for firing any staff that goes against her by actually following the regulations. Staff that is hired is generally uneducated with no college degree or CDA, little online training and a very poor understanding of child development. Staff who have CDA’s have expired. General regulations on requirements of staff are not met. Although some staff is bilingual, they speak very little or poor English while the vast majority of the children are only English speaking. This creates much stress on the children as they don’t understand the demands being barked at them in another language. This also includes the director who struggles to communicate in English. The director often would become angry when communicating with her staff, parents and even children because there is a pretty significant language barrier. No child is truly safe at Poughkeepsie Child Development Center and I hope to see the day that it is closed down. This center should not be allowed to be operational. Proper and safe cleaning methods are not used. Antibacterial wipes are used in the presence of children instead of a diluted bleach solution that is in the regulations. The floor is mopped with strong chemicals mixed together during nap time, right next to the heads of sleeping children where they breathe in the fumes. This center has gotten away with so much and the community has the right to know. This center was given a “Daycare of the Year” award in 2019 because they’re that good at covering up how they treat young, innocent children. Please do not take what I’ve shared lightly and do not ever risk sending your child to this daycare center.
