Connect, Seek Advice, Share Knowledge
The staff at Oaklawn truly care about the children, which makes them a wonderful help for children with special needs and, of course, their parents as well. Our girls were born one minute apart & just before their 1st birthday began speaking, one just a couple days before the other. Soon, we realized they were proof that 'Twin Talk' is very real. They struggled & didn't want or care to try speaking the English words we tried teaching them. But it didn't take them long to carry on entire conversations back and forth that, even though we didn't have a clue what they were talking about, they understood each other perfectly. It was like they were natives of a foreign-speaking country, who's language we didn't speak a word, yet they spoke fluently. I am very happy to say that their involvement with the teachers and students at Oaklawn Head Start has proven to be an unbelievable assistance in many ways. Most importantly, they were successful in transferring them into a situation where they were forced daily to use words everyone could understand. And they did so in ways that made our girls WANT to learn a new language, as well as all the other important skills & knowledge they were provided the opportunity to learn.I must say everyone in and around that school is a pleasure to know and be around on a regular basis. That's extremely important requirements for anyone you're going to entrust with your children's lives. They are also often to remind parents that we are not only allowed, but very much desired to be involved with any of the classes, events and/or projects that we want to attend, assist, initiate or be a part of in many other ways. They welcome parents' input, new ideas, and/or any suggestions for ways to help the school, it's programs and students. Like I said, they really do care about our children and go lengths to better serve them. My children will definitely be ecstatically attending one more year there before they're old enough to start Kindergarten. You know they're doing it right when your kids hate to see the weekend approaching because they don't get to go to school.
