Description: Community Academy had its genesis in a successful after-school program called Kids House that was part of a community outreach initiative by the Urban Family Institute aimed primarily at underserved urban youth. It provided a safe environment and a structured program for children in the critical after-school hours. The Kids House experience led to creation of a charter school where children participate in a high-quality academic program in the same type of supportive environment. Kids House remains an important component of the CAPCS experience, responding to the need for before- and after-school care by many of its families.
