Although, I love may of the teachers, I have to give one star as the administrator does not care about child safety. They admitted several children kicked out of other daycares for violent behavior. Our son was choked by another child, he is 3 and other children have been hit, kicked, etc. I didn't expect to see issues like this in a 3 year old room. The administrator has a very cavalier attitude about this and says she has no protocol in place to deal with children who are problems due to violent behavior. I had to remove my child and take him to a church daycare.
When we first started Beach Kids we loved the place, but we only went to one room as our daughter stayed in that location the entire day. Once we moved up to the next room our daughter was exposed to the lunch room area and then went to a portable. We started to notice an odor in the kitchen area when we'd pass by to pick up our daughter. One day we came in from a holiday weekend and the entire placed smelled horrible - like urine - I was told by one of the staff that they had a rat problem and the rats had urinated in the building while everyone was gone. One teacher was even spraying a solution on her carpet to try to contain the smell. I also noticed that on the floor, reachable to all the children, was a poisonous sticky pad with a glob of peanut butter on top. Any child could have easily picked this up as it was on the floor in the lunch room right by the food table. The ceiling in the lunch room also was molded and had an active leak as I witnessed water coming from it when we had a rain storm. I asked about the rats & ceiling and was told they were calling terminix and were having the roof repaired as they had holes in the roof. After weeks of asking and complaining to which nothing was done except new interior roof tiles being places for cosmetic purposes & a blue tarp being on the roof for weeks, I spoke with the owner about the issues to which she said the roof was fixed (the roofers were there that day and I asked them & they told me there were still 2-3 holes left) and then I asked about the carpets being cleaned as we were promised and she said she didn't see an issue with them. I stated even after the rats urinated all over them and she said she didn't think they needed to be cleaned. I then asked her if she just didn't care about our children and she actually shrugged her shoulders after that I told her I’d be pulling our daughter. She stated she thought I was doing that a while ago and I told her I was given them to opportunity to do what they said they were going to do which they obviously weren't going to do. The owner's sister even had the audacity to tell my daughter when removing her that it wasn't her fault but her mother's fault - totally appalled at the way this facility is kept and handled. I know several parents who have removed their children for the same reasons. I would NOT recommend this place and honestly feel the health dept. needs to check this place out. I did notice the next week, while taking my daughter to her new school, they replaced only the back half of the roof finally after 4 months. But I doubt any of the mold was cleaned up.
This child care facility is top notch in providing a loving, nurturing learning environment to youngsters. They provide hot meals for breakfast and lunch as well as snacks during the day. The kids follow a decent curriculum which prepares them for preschool and kindergarten. The playground and outside area is safe sufficient and well maintained. I feel confident my child is being properly cared for when I drop her off.
