We are a small Preschool in the Los Osos community. Formerly a montessori preschool, we have made the transition into a progressive preschool. Our philosophy is a well balanced approach through Montessori, reggio, and traditional works. The children will learn independence in the classroom by learning how to do everyday tasks, such as; cutting fruits and vegetables, pouring liquids, cooking activities, washing work activities and so much more. Children are taught to take responsibility for setting up their work area, cleaning it up when finished and putting supplies away. In our classroom, everyday is a teaching experience. Not only for the children but for the teachers as well. While children are accustomed for adults to be the experts, we value our children by allowing them the opportunity to be the experts as well. When children ask questions, we don't automatically provide them with a quick answer. We encourage them to use their senses, past experiences and allow them the opportunity to explore and discover their way into finding the answer. We also encourage their creativity to shine through our young authors adventures. Children work as a group to come up with a story. Each student takes a turn adding a sentence to the story and change it depending on where they want the story to go. It is an incredible and positive way to challenge children to use their imagination.
At this young age, it is vital for children to form positive relationships. Not only with their peers but with adults as well. We help create social situations through activities and play throughout the day where children learn how to respect, appreciate and communicate with their peers and their teachers. We help guide children through difficult situations and help them understand and cope with their feelings. We feel that it is an integral part of developing a child as a whole.
