During the early years, children form their basic attitudes towards learning, themselves and others. At Gan Keshet we strive to support a child’s development of self-confidence, respect and empathy for others, intellectual curiosity, creative expression, and a positive identity. Gan Keshet offers a rich, nurturing, play-based learning environment where children, families and staff together explore “being a community.” We strive to create an environment for children to explore, question and develop an authentic voice. Families and staff, of diverse backgrounds, partner together as we introduce the Jewish community and its values. Our curriculum focuses on social, emotional, and physical development while fostering intellectual curiosity and cognitive growth. Since children grow at different rates, individual and group activities are offered. Children are encouraged to be actively involved in the learning process.
In operation since 1975, Sunnyside Child Care is one of the area's most established early childhood centers, offering quality care for children ages 1.5 to 6. The Center is licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care and accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. Situated on a sunny lawn surrounded by trees on a rise above Easthampton Road, Sunnyside has five classrooms, each of which has big windows, child-sized tables and chairs, a reading corner, art supplies and easels, age-appropriate playthings, books, and dress-up clothes. Our roomy indoor playground with play structures allows children to stretch their legs and move about freely, regardless of the weather. On most days, children spend time outdoors in the gated outdoor play areas, and also on teacher led exploration of Sunnyside's eight acres of outdoor space.
At our school, children are given the precious gift of time: time to know themselves, time to nurture friendships, time to learn, explore and reach out to the world around them. Montessori education is a dynamic philosophy with over a hundred years of experience in “helping children help themselves.” We invite you to come and experience our school for yourself. Take a tour of our campus. Observe in our toddler, preschool and elementary classes and picture your child in our classrooms. We would love the opportunity to show you our community with the hope that you will consider making it yours.
