The Mission of GMCC is to unlock the learning potential in your child by providing them with the highest quality childcare experience in a safe and nurturing community. GMCC believes a family's support is the most important contributing factor in our ability to provide quality service. To encourage engagement, we have an open door policy. We welcome families to visit and join the classrooms throughout the day. This allows the children and families to take ownership in the program, while also affording an opportunity to interact with the staff and other children in the classroom setting. At times the classrooms also hold family events, such as potluck dinners, concerts, and non-traditional celebrations, which provide an opportunity for families to interact with the center as well as one another.

The Family Place Child Care
Hartford, VT 05001
(802) 649-3268
The Family Place was founded in 1985 in White River Junction by a concerned group of community members. A small storefront in downtown White River Junction served as the first location for the organization. In 1988, following a merger with the Parent Aide program and Learning to Listen, (a therapeutic preschool), The Family Place became designated as the Parent Child Center for Windsor County by the Vermont Agency of Human Services. The Family Place's designation as a Parent Child Center is key to understanding who we are and what we do. Designation as a Parent Child Center involves a commitment to a set of common principles, philosophy, and core services that say we are in fact a Parent Child Center. Parent Child Centers were established in the mid to late 80's by the Vermont Legislature (Act 0227B describing parent child center eligibility and responsibilities). The state of Vermont first awarded state funds to Parent Child Centers in Fiscal Year 1988. Vermont supports parent child centers with state funds, distributed among all 16 centers. Vermont leads the nation as the first state to sponsor Parent Child Centers. Vermont is the only state whose legislature has made this level of commitment and maintained it over time.

Each day of an ASPIRE program includes physical activity, nutritious snack, study time and a group project. It is our main objective to provide safe and reliable care in a fun, enriching environment that emphasizes social and emotional growth. Through various activities, students in the ASPIRE program develop "life skills" such as cooperation, problem-solving, group decision-making and leadership. They also learn more about themselves, their community and their world. Most activities are centered around a monthly theme such as Different But the Same, Our Community, Kindness and Justice, My Family, and Our Natural World. To enhance literacy skills, we use the YMCA KidzLit literacy program. Developed specifically for YMCA after-school programs, KidzLit involves ASPIRE participants in a variety of fun reading, writing, art, drama and other activities related directly to our YMCA core values (caring, honesty, respect and responsibility)and our ASPIRE monthly themes.

Session themes provide the focus for many activities. Older campers are engaged in many session-long projects. Every other Friday all campers will have a chance to delve into a favorite activity in more depth including activities that are not part of the traditional camp curriculum.
