Established in 1948, Bayshore Co-op Preschool is a non-profit, parent participation preschool that allows parents a unique opportunity to share in their child’s first educational experience. Owned and operated by the parents, our school stresses the importance of family in the preschool program. Under the direction of a caring and professional teacher, Corinna Gist, Bayshore Co-op Preschool integrates the comfort and security of home-based play with more traditional preschool experiences. Most of our school day is spent outdoors, next to the beautiful bay. Burnett is a located in beautiful Long Beach California. We are a single track (Track B)year round K-5 school servicing about 1000students. Our students are from diverse backgrounds including Hispanic African American Cambodian and Vietnamese. Burnett has 50 classroom teachers three Reading Specialist one Reading Recovery teacher a Resource Specialist a Speech and Language Specialist and a Librarian. Vocal and instrumental music teachers work three days with Burnett students. Teachers are engaged in ongoing professional development. Staff development is the focus of weekly staff meetings. District math and literacy consultants regularly visit classrooms to provide support for teachers. All new teachers have a Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment Project (BTSA) coach. A New Teacher Coach supports first and second year teachers. Teacher meet in grade level teams to plan evaluate and support one another in their work to improve their teaching strategies and to improve student achievement.
Established in 1973 as an outreach of California Heights United Methodist Church, the mission of the Children’s Center is to provide a loving and secure Christian environment where children can develop socially, emotionally, physically, intellectually and spiritually. The Children’s Center offers preschool and daycare (2-5 years old), after school care (K-8th grade), and a nine week Summer Program. Hours are 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
The Child and Family Center, located in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at CSULB, is an educational program which provides training of early childhood professionals in Child Development and Family Studies. The Isabel Patterson Child Development Center (CDC) provides a valuable service to students who are also parents of young children, offering affordable child care on the campus of California State University, Long Beach. The CDC,a divison of ASI, offers financial assistance for qualifying students and we boast a low teacher/child ratio. Our staff is made up of highly trained and qualified teachers who deliver quality early care and education programs for 230 children each semester from 6 months through 2nd grade. Since 1975, the CDC has served as a resource for the university’s academic programs, for the community, and for other institutions of postsecondary education. We are licensed by the Department of Social Services and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
Our developmentally appropriate program helps to prepare children for future academic learning through hands-on experience, including: creative art, music, and creative movement, science through discovery, language arts, literature and pre-math.
