About the Provider

Description: The YWCA of the City of New York has provided affordable early childhood education to working families in New York City for more than 40 years. Our centers offer nurturing learning environments focused on the social, emotional, physical and academic development of children aged 2-5. With an evidence-based curriculum and a proven instructional methodology, we ensure that each child enters elementary school prepared to succeed. Children cultivate intellectual curiosity and develop positive learning habits through activities designed to promote early literacy, develop basic math skills, introduce them to science and technology and promote creative expression through the arts. Approximately 200 children participate in early learning, HeadStart and Universal Pre-K in our centers.

Each early learning center is licensed by the New York City Department of Health and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Our teachers are New York State certified, and all staff members undergo background clearances and participate in ongoing professional development.

The YWCA believes a parent is a child’s first teacher. To support and cultivate parents and guardians in leading their child’s development, the YWCA hosts parent workshops, curriculum discussions and special events. Along with the parent advisory committee, the YWCA also sponsors field trips, parent socials and other networking activities.

The YW partners with community leaders and institutions to provide additional resources in support of the development of core cognitive and social competencies. We currently have partnerships with Brooklyn Public Library, The Research Foundation of the State University of New York (SUNY), Cool Culture, New York State Department of Mental Health and Hygiene (Health Bucks program) Social Science and Human Services Department-Borough of Manhattan Community College, Adelphi University, School of Social Work, Hunter College School of Social Work and Fordham University, School of Social work.
