Description: Westmoor Elementary is the largest and only single level elementary school in Scottsbluff. The building opened in the fall of 1960 and added a six room pod addition in 1968. Six more classrooms and air conditioning were added in August 2009. In 2011, Westmoor celebrated 50 years of successful education with a community open house.
With and enrollment of just over 400 students, Westmoor has three to four sections of each grade with classroom sizes ranging from 16-23 students. The building is fortunate to house the districts Multi-Categorical Special Education Program, which consists of three additional classrooms. The inclusion of special needs students develops a caring and accepting attitude of people's differences in all students.
Westmoor students utilize the Accelerated Reader and the Accelerated Math programs. These two programs are supplementary to the regular reading and math curriculum and provide excellent differentiation for all students. Students that master math objectives and reading levels earn certificates and awards. As a result of excellent curriculum and teaching, Westmoor students have met the Adequate Yearly Progress goals as set by federal legislation, No Child Left Behind, and boast one of the highest percentages of high ability learners in the district.
In spite of the size of the building, it truly functions as a family. You can tell when you walk in the front door, it is a child-centered environment.
