Description: Tabernacle Child Care Center is a Religious Exempt Child Day Center in Richmond VA, with a maximum capacity of 65 children. This child care center helps with children in the age range of 0 years 3 months to 5 years 11 months. The provider does not participate in a subsidized child care program.
Tabernacle is a great Day Care for children. It is challenging to break onto the list for enrollment, but once on, you'll generally be very satisfied with the service. It is a well run day care (Director Francis Matthews and Asst Dir PJ), and the parents interact and are all very friendly.
The facility is very good for the Fan District, especially the Infant room where there are quite rooms for the children to sleep (a real rare feature in the city). The 12-18mo room is pretty small, but all other rooms are perfectly fine. The curriculum and meals are all very well thought out and regimented. There is a definite emphasis on Christian principles, with prayers and songs tethered to a faith based learning model. Summertime, Vacation Bible School is a one week diversion from the standard day care week, but it's very well run and the kids love it!
One downside is their Inclement Weather Policy. They are linked with the Richmond City school system, which means they close at the prospect of a snowflake. Probably one of the worst closure policies of any of the day care's that I'm aware of - so be careful if you don't have care alternatives when the sky turns cold and grey.
They continue to keep prices very reasonable, with a second child discount.
All-in-all, a very good day care, with the care and touch consistent with a non-profit, non-franchise. Would be a solid 5 stars if it wasn't for the weather policy.
