About the Provider

Description: The South Florida After-School All-Stars (SFASAS) is the local chapter of the leading national organization that provides year-round, school-based, comprehensive after-school programs that include academics, enrichment activities and health & fitness to middle-school aged students.

Its rich history evolves from the passion of its founder and former Chairman of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness, Arnold Schwarzenegger. A national tour of schools highlighting the risks and challenges inner-city children face inspired his personal mission to change young people’s lives through sports and fitness. Shortly after becoming Commissioner of the Los Angeles-based Inner-City Games, Schwarzenegger launched the Inner-City Games Foundation (ICGF) in 1992 with the mission of bringing sports and fitness programs to at-risk youth nationwide.

In 1995, the Greater Miami Inner-City Games was formed featuring large-scale sporting events and a variety of sports and fitness programs giving at-risk youth opportunities beyond the traditional school day. While these programs provided children with challenging physical activities, reaching more youth in an even more meaningful way became the organization’s new priority.

With the goal of achieving greater impact, ICGF changed its program focus and name to the South Florida After-School All-Stars (SFASAS) offering multi-faceted, year-round programs that keep students safe and help them achieve in school and in life. From one summer camp reaching 48 students in 1997, SFASAS has grown to a full-service program serving 28 middle school locations in its after-school program, and an additional 9 elementary school sites in our new aftercare program, reaching a total over 4,000 students a year.

With over 90% of its funds allocated directly to programming, SFASAS continues to strive in improving the quality, sustainability and cultural relevance of its youth-serving programs.
