Description:
My name is Katie, I have been an Early Childhood Teacher for the past 15 years and have experience with infants, toddlers and preschool. I earned my AA degree from Anoka Ramsey Community College in 1998 and I'm very close to receiving my BA in Child Development from Concordia University. I have also been a mother for twenty three years and consider that to be my greatest joy and inspiration to giving the best care to all children. I recently moved to Finlayson after marrying my wonderful husband Scott where we are happily raising our family together. This adventure brings me to the decision to open my own daycare and I am so excited to share this wonderful place with your little ones.
Little Flowers is a nature based program – my hope is to instil in each child a love for our natural world and the opportunity to experience the beauty of nature, not only through sight but through all of their senses. Children will feel the delight of raindrops on their faces, the sound of their feet splashing in puddles, the thrill of the earth in their hands, the wonder of flowers sprouting, the smell of fresh air and the mystery of what they might find while exploring our nature path.
I believe in developing the whole child, therefore along with cognitive development, we will be developing social and emotional skills, creative development, and most importantly each child will be encouraged to embrace their natural curiosity and imagination.
Much of our daily routine will consist of practical life skills such as baking bread, making snacks, helping to set the table, gardening and the real work of childhood...Play! All of these activities foster a sense of confidence, competence and community and are the foundation to building a true love of learning in each child. Music, singing, puppet shows and stories are key elements in building literacy skills and will be included throughout our day, as will painting, drawing, crafts and other creative outlets.
I purposely keep our environment gentle and peaceful....Life for little ones can be busy enough...this is a place where children can feel safe, nurtured and free to explore the world at their own pace. At Little Flowers everyone belongs and we focus on warm, respectful, and kind relationships with one another.
