Description: Jesse S. Bobo Elementary is a Title I school located just inside the city limits of Spartanburg on the southwest side of town. The school opened in 1972 and is named for Mr. Jesse S. Bobo who served on the Spartanburg County Board of Education for many years. It is a one-story brick structure located on an eighty-acre site on Powell Mill Road, just off U.S. Highway 29. The conveniently located school serves a community of approximately six and a half square miles. The community is bordered on the south side by U.S. Highway 29 and on the north by Interstate 85.
Over the past three decades, the community has expanded with a large number of apartment complexes being built within the boundaries of the school community. In the early 1970's and 1980's, our community was comprised mainly of middle and upper class families. As housing in our attendance area has become more affordable, our school has begun to serve a more transient student population from a wide range of socio-economic levels.
The key defining features of Jesse S. Bobo Elementary School includes a devoted staff and innovative programs. It employs caring, dedicated staff members who go beyond the call of duty to ensure that the educational, social, and emotional needs of all students are met. The staff strives to provide an environment that is safe, nurturing, and conducive to the development of the total child. Many supplementary programs are in place to help students reach their potential and become life long learners who are productive citizens in our ever-changing society.
