Description: Effingham County’s newest elementary school, Blandford was issued the challenge of establishing its own identity while upholding the reputation of excellence in education. Blandford’s staff has answered the challenge with success and students have developed a true sense of pride in their school.
Blandford Elementary offers programs beyond the established Georgia Performance Standards. Students participate in Accelerated Reader, Invention Convention, GAE Spelling Bee, gifted education, Junior Beta Club, and chorus. Grade level performances at PTO meetings include musicals, plays, and recorder concerts. An extracurricular choral program is offered for 4th and 5th graders. The chorus presents a winter and spring concert.
Blandford Elementary takes pride in its parent involvement program. Parents are frequently found volunteering in the classroom, with the AR program, in the media center, and in Book Fairs. The local scout troop has assisted with the building of outdoor classroom areas including an amphitheater. Blandford’s PTO is very active and assists with coordinating the volunteer program and supporting school intiatives.
Blandford teachers understand the value of exposing students to the arts. Art projects are frequently displayed throughout the school. For further exposure, Blandford has implemented the Blue Jay International Arts Festival. In the spring each grade level conducts a study of a country. Each class participates in the “Parade of Nations” carrying the flag they made to represent their country. Afterward they present a dance in costume as a tribute to their country. Each student also has an art piece on display. The atmosphere is quite festive with sidewalk art, music, and theatrical presentations.
While emphasizing academics at Blandford, the total development of the child is important. Our students are taught the importance of being good citizens. They participate in community service projects such as collecting tabs for the Ronald McDonald House and the Diabetes Walk. They also participate in Jump Rope for Heart and the United Way canned food drive. BES students also recycle aluminum cans and pop tabs to benefit the Ronald McDonald House.
Blandford Elementary feels like home to students and staff - a home that welcomes all to embark on an adventure of learning.
