Description: ALPoE is a nature-based preschool on two acres of green, open space. We have 8 gardens, a tea-cup pig, desert tortoises, bunnies, chickens and more! The curriculum is a reflection of multiple educational theories and philosophies, all of which are linked to a model of education called social constructivism. Social constructivism emphasizes collaboration and the exchange of ideas in an environment which is more child-centered, than teacher-directed and which concentrates more on thinking and understanding rather than simply recalling facts and performing on cue. It is a well documented fact that when children are free to respond to their interests, they construct the kind of knowledge and learning which is relevant and meaningful to them.
