CHILDRENS INN

CHILDRENS INN

Olympia, WA 98501 | (360) 709-9769
The Children's Inn is a unique school and day care center. We offer a reliable, consistent, and rewarding day care experience. In our private K-6 school, we strive to educate each student individually rather than as a group. Our goal is to help children form high self-esteem by feeling successful as learners and as members of a community, (we like to call it our family.) This is our vision: to love, nurture, guide, and teach each child as they develop into contributing members of a community. We want to nurture the spirit of your child. This is not a religious statement but a very personal statement. Who is your child? Honestly this questions usually gets set aside in daycares and schools. We can care for the child, teach colors and ABC's, even teach manners, but when you're talking about large groups of children you lose the ability to truly nurture each child. We are going back to why we are doing what we are doing.

SO SOUND YMCA LINCOLN ELEM

SO SOUND YMCA LINCOLN ELEM

Olympia, WA 98501 | (360) 705-2642
The Options philosophy recognizes that the development of specific skills or disciplines is best accomplished as a part of projects and explorations that are meaningful and interesting to students. Curriculum topics may be treated in thematic units, which interweave many areas of learning. For example, a class that is studying ancient civilizations may not only read about the topic, but may also learn math skills necessary to calculate the immensity of the pyramids. The class may conduct scientific experiments that test different materials for papermaking, learn to read world maps and participate in ancient crafts. Students might publish or demonstrate their learning in a report, a model or a play. All-school themes are chosen each year to further integrate curriculum and develop community. Past themes such as Biosphere, Migration, Movers & Shakers and A Sense of Place are designed to integrate thinking skills and behaviors as well as environmental awareness and community service. The culminating event is the All-School Theme Night where all the classes display their projects and share what they have learned.

It serves approximately 300 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. In addition, special needs children are served in the building's autism program, and the Infant Toddler Programs. The school was originally built in 1965. In 1968, additions were made to the school, which included the library and a six-classroom wing expansion. In 1978, the multipurpose building was expanded, increasing the size of the gymnasium. In 1986, a covered playshed structure was constructed. Separate areas for the bus and parent drop-off, a set of new student lavatories and fire sprinklers for the main building were completed in September 1997. The addition of six classrooms in a new wing and a remodeled music room was finished in January 1998, giving L.P. Brown a total of 18 classrooms.
