Findings: It was reported that a 2 year old child was restrained in a booster seat on the floor in the classroom during circle time. There was no report of injury to the child, but no other children were observed to have been restrained. The child was observed to be buckled in the booster seat on at least 2 occasions, but in the seat often. Upon inspection, the staff admitted to using a "bumbo" seat on the floor in room A. The chair was observed. The staff explained that there are a couple of children who occasionally use the bumbo chair. The director added that she has asked staff to buckle the children in the bumbo chair if the chair is used, because the bumbo chair is equipped with a strap and buckle. It was also reported that sometimes children choose to use the bumbo chair. The chair was not used during the inspection. After discussion the director plans to remove the bumbo chair from the room immediately. One staff reported that the chair is used to keep the child in place during circle time. Another staff reported that it was used to help children listen to the lesson and to have the child be more of a part of the circle time and to be engaged. Continued in the "remarks" section. |
