Description: B. W. Tinker School was built in 1925. It replaced the old Town Plot School that stood at the corner of Congress Avenue. In February 1925, Professor Berlin Wright Tinker, who had been Waterbury's Superintendent of schools for 28 years, announced he was going to retire at the end of the school year. He deemed it was necessary for the conservation of his health. Mr. Tinker had built up Waterbury's school to a high degree of efficiency and his resignation was universally regretted. On Highland Avenue a new school was about to be finished. Mr. Tinker had taken special interest in the new school, which at the time was one of the city's best looking buildings, and the Board of Education desiring to honor him, named the school B. W. Tinker.
