We chose to leave during our preschool experience. The lead teacher was rude and dismissive of our concerns regarding our child’s learning. Whenever we asked about if he was meeting milestones and such she said ‘yes’ and was quick to stop the conversation. Once we got our children in a new center our oldest was found to have some learning issues that were finally addressed and the quality of our youngest’s class was leaps and bounds better than the Whistle Stop. If you can afford to go elsewhere do so. Your child’s learning depends on it.
They don't care about their employees or children. Only want money from the state and federal government. Making all employees come back to work even though they don't have actual kids in daycare. Exposing employees and the employees children. Terrible and very very selfish!!!
Overall, the Whistle Stop is a good Center and is one of only two for Huxley residents. This is likely why there is low staff and parent turnover. There are many amazing teachers at the center who offer years of experience and are excellent with the children and parents.
The center is older and doesn’t offer many of the security features of newer ones. It is open access meaning anyone can come in as they like. Parents scan in and out but there’s essentially no security feature for the building. Often times you could enter the building and not see anyone until you got to the classroom.
The management team consists of the owner, the director and assistant director. We often felt that our concerns were dismissed by administration and some teachers. These concerns were not trivial ones either. They included concerns about our child’s development, health, and safety. In addition, they were inconsistent with following the policies stated the parent handbook. For example, the handbook stated children with excessively runny noses are not allowed to be at school until it is better. This policy was never upheld and resulted in other children being chronically ill. They also often made policy changes via a mass email even though not all parents were included yet did not add these to the handbook.
There are some teachers who violate parent/teacher and teacher/child confidentiality. They openly talk to other parents about other children and their parents. There are also some teachers who are rude toward parents whenever a parent asks about the care of their children. We found this to be highly unprofessional. When this was mentioned to administration they said they’d speak with the teachers but nothing was resolved.
Finally, the curriculum taught to older children is the same curriculum they’ve used for years with very few updates. They seem to use a lot of movies as part of the curriculum. The meals and snacks served are often made from packaged products and are high in salt and sugar.
