Description: Morgan Elementary School serves 354 students in grades PK through 5th. The school is located in the eastern part of Rowan County and borders the North Rowan Elementary District, the Granite Quarry Elementary District, the Rockwell Elementary District, and Stanly County on the east. It is predominantly a rural area located approximately six miles from Rockwell.
Students leaving the fifth grade at Morgan Elementary School feed into Erwin Middle School for grades six through eight. Grades nine through twelve are completed at East Rowan High School.
Morgan Elementary has been the focal point of the community since the 1800’s. Its historical setting provides many opportunities to study the rich history and heritage of early North Carolina. The students and staff benefit from strong community support as evidenced by an active P.T.A. and volunteers. School programs are very well attended by parents and supportive community members.
Morgan Elementary’s student population consist of 95.4% white, 1.8% African American, 1.1% Hispanic, 1.1% Asian and 0.6% other. Thirty-four percent of students participate in free and reduced lunch. Students come from primarily middle-income households where parent education levels vary.
Morgan Elementary school has been recognized as a school of excellence and has met AYP goals for the past two years. Morgan was also recognized as a “School of Distinction” for the 2001-2002 school year. The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges.
