Gan Gurim is an Israeli home based child care center with a preschool program. It is a place where children 2-4 years old have the opportunity to learn and grow while having fun. With a 100% Hebrew-speaking team, children from Hebrew-speaking families can master one language before being introduced to a second one (usually English) and children from English-speaking families can be introduced and become fluent in Hebrew. At Gan Gurim the focus is on age-appropriate activities, ranging from gross/fine motor-activities through cognitive and social skills. At Gan Gurim the children and their individual needs are listened to and are respected. Children are given the tools to solve social conflicts, with the adult as a guide and not a judge. We are not afraid of getting messy – different sensory encounters are on top of our list! That includes finger-paint, dough, sand, water and many more! The children meet for 2 circle times every day, where we discuss the weather, count the days of the month, play social and educational games and sing lots and lots of Hebrew songs. We also have a weekly music class (taught by the lead-teacher, a “music-together” certified teacher) and have a weekly yoga/movement class. During this time we also read many books, use finger-puppets and make every day a meaningful one. Outdoor activities include water-play, sand box, sand and water tables and also free time (for sliding, riding, playing balls and more). The children also get structured time for putting puzzles together, playing board games, lacing, sorting and categorizing, working on language and math concepts and more. With 12 kids to a group and a ratio of 6:1, the children enjoy a personal touch in a warm loving environment. We created a little kibbutz-style place that offers Israeli education, following the Jewish calendar and holidays (baking Halla every Friday, making “Hanukiyot”, planting for Tu b’shvat etc. etc.). Gan Gurim is located in Rockville and is open Mon-Fri 8:30 to 4:00, September through July. Gan Gurim is a licensed registered child care center and is run by a certified experienced pre-school teacher

Students at Berman Hebrew Academy gain so much more than a thorough grounding in secular and Judaic academics; they receive a deep grounding in Torah values and middot, the Jewish learning and character-building principles that guide our lives. And because Berman's modern Orthodox approach is imbued with Zionist values, our students gain a love of Israel, which becomes a central part of their Jewish identities. Berman's integrated Judaic and general curriculum combines a warm and caring environment with a dynamic, challenging and creative co-educational course of study. Small class sizes and individualized attention mean that students can engage in activities they need to become well-rounded while discovering and nurturing the greatest strengths within themselves. Berman Hebrew Academy, founded in 1944, provides a comprehensive Jewish and general education in an atmosphere of reverence, good citizenship, and love of the Jewish people and Israel. In partnership with the community, Berman strives to continue this journey, shaping a future for our students that is filled with purpose, accomplishment, caring and commitment to Jewish life and Jewish values. Our graduates go on to our nation's top universities and Israeli yeshivot and seminaries. They become successful in their chosen fields and leaders in their communities as they live as committed, observant Jews in today's world.
