The owners of Creative Scholars Preschool, Mark and Della Allen, envisioned opening a variety of educationally based facilities in Chicago for families during the early developmental years of one’s life. Being the lucky parents of boy/girl twins, Mark and Della’s initial creation "Fantasy Kingdom" opened fall of 2004 and closed summer of 2012. Fantasy Kingdom was the first of its kind – a "learning through play" facility in Chicago which gave families the flexibility to pop in and play during the week without having to sign up for scheduled classes. Their next dream came true when Creative Scholars Preschool opened in April of 2009. The environment within is warm and nurturing. With a more structured focus on building the early academics necessary before entering elementary school, Mark and Della and their Director, Mary Ann Fogg created a preschool community for children and their families to be part of a life-long love for learning as well as life-long friendships. Creative Scholars Preschool is a safe, engaging, collaborative place for children to learn. With a focus on early literacy development, fine arts, and foreign language, Mary has developed an appropriate curriculum that enables her teachers to discover the unique gifts each child possesses.

We encourage our children to develop at their own pace as we provide them the necessary tools to excel. A childs life must be surrounded by the love that offers them a wealth of rewarding learning experiences to ensure proper development of sound, mind and body. Our purpose is to provide quality care for your child that parents can love and appreciate. Rainforest Learning Center is an environmental arts-based preschool and infant program for children six weeks to six years. At Rainforest, we introduce learning through active discovery and artistic exploration. Our innovative programs are worlds beyond anything Chicago has seen before and are producing students who are exceptionally prepared for life beyond preschool. Rainforest uses the arts to encourage academic, personal, and social growth. Our programs go beyond traditional finger-painting and crayons (though we have this too) and include work with a diverse range of media such as sculpture, pottery, painting, piano, dance, yoga, and theater. The diversity of artistic experiences we offer our students is next to unheard of in a early childhood setting. Our programs nurture each student's creative vision and provide ample opportunity for children to explore their creative sides. Along side our arts curriculum, Rainforest offers an equally unique and successful academic curriculum. Our curriculum centers on a hands-on, engaging approach towards learning that creates a fun and emotionally supportive place for all children who have a multitude of different learning styles. By incorporating our specialty arts program into an all encompassing academic lesson plan, students of all ages have thrived and excelled academically, with a consistent pattern of students being accepted into many of the city’s top primary schools. Rainforest Learning Center’s students are constantly exposed to the wonders of the world around them. There are so many exciting places to explore right here in the city, and we take a great joy in adventuring with our students. From the zoo and the aquarium, to nature parks and museums, to plays for children, Rainforest students go on field trips every month of the year. We also take great care to expose our students to environmentally-friendly learning programs. Living in an urban environment, our students often miss out on seeing much of what nature has to offer, which makes it even more important that every student experiences hands-on natural science learning as part of our program.

The Douglass-Tubman Child Development Center was established in 1983 by a community-based group organized by Reverend Gilbert O. Leigh. It was incorporated as the Douglass-Tubman Youth Ministries, Inc. as a 501 © (3) corporation and remains under the leadership of Rev. Leigh. Gradually, the organization hired staff and expanded to include a structured afterschool program and employment training. In 1960, Douglass-Tubman was offered the opportunity to lease a former pre-school and Head Start facility in the Austin community. The organization converted this facility into a daycare center and undertook further programmatic expansion. From this 15,000 square foot, single-story facility at Chicago and Lavergne Avenue, The Douglass-Tubman today provides comprehensive family support services, centered on the parent-child relationship. These services include a licensed full-day pre-school and after-school programs, parent education classes, individual and groups counseling for parents and youth, and a food for needy residents of the Austin and Grand Crossing communities. Approximately 500 individual families are served each year. All of those served are African-American and have household incomes at or below the federal poverty level. Douglass-Tubman Child Development Center is licensed by the Illinois Department of Human Services. It was the recipient of a United Way Venture Grant, and is funded by the City of Chicago as well as the State of Illinois. The organization maintains working relationships with social service agencies serving the Austin and North Lawndale communities, including the Wholistic Center, Lutheran Family Services, Love in Action Ministry, and Cook County Family Health Center; as well as local schools and area churches. Douglass-Tubman also coordinates its activities with those of city-wide programs and agencies, such as ChildServ, Prevention Partnership, Catholic Charities, the Chicago Park District, and the Chicago Board of Education.

Discovery-based curriculum focused on the whole child Our curriculum provides guidance for our teachers, enables your child’s natural curiosity to emerge through purposeful play and is designed to give our students an advantage in reaching the development milestones appropriate for their age group. Creative educators passionate about early childhood education Sonnets Academy’s teachers care about the safety, development and success of every child in their class room. They have the education background and support to develop activities to reach each individual and a desire to be an active part of your child’s learning experience. Facilities designed to stimulate purposeful play Our school and class rooms are designed for security, enjoyment and learning as priorities. We have been thoughtful in designing room configurations that make it easy to include every child and for each individual to have a great learning experience. Identify and provide for your child’s specific needs Our teachers are trained to be inclusive of each student in their care and to design activities that can be modified so each child has the opportunity to express themselves. They know how to modify lesson plans to provide a chance for every child to have an experience that gives them the greatest chance for development. Accommodate your schedule with 2, 3 and 5 day programs We work with our parents and families to find a program and combination of days that are right for you. While we may not be able to accommodate all requests for partial week schedules, we will always do so if there is availability in a class room. Great neighborhood locations We love the neighborhoods of which we are a part and see ourselves as a long-term part of the community. All of our locations are in wonderful parts of the city, near a park and easy to reach walking, driving or taking public transportation. Local, fresh and healthy kid-friendly food We serve food that children want to eat, that is healthy, fresh, made-from-scratch and will provide them a positive relationship with food from a very young age.
The South-East Asia Center (SEAC) is a community-based, educational and social service organization building bridges of understanding and cooperation between peoples of Old and New World cultures. SEAC serves some of the most culturally diverse immigrant neighborhoods in the United States, with over one hundred different languages spoken by residents within its borders. SEAC's Uptown-Edgewater home base is also one of the poorest neighborhoods in Chicago, with some forty-three percent of Uptown children and twenty-six percent of Edgewater children living under the poverty line. Many of the immigrants and refugees served at SEAC come from rural societies where education and literacy are scarce commodities. SEAC’s more than 30 staff and over 100 volunteers provide cultural, emotional, and educational aid and social services to over 9,000 of the needy each year.
